Pretty sure that the mile would be considered a long course compared to the 1600 meters. Bobby Beck has a faster high school mile record then the current 1600 meter record for Louisiana. No one was ever close to beating him in Cross Country in Louisiana. NO ONE . Go eat some Kelp
That was 45 years ago. The courses were all over the place. Most of them were road races measured with car by some football coach. These kids are much faster. Much faster! Dr Beck hasn't run a step since the 1980s. Time has moved on and these lads are much faster then those dinosaurs.
And some were longer. Do you know how accurate Highland Park in Baton Rouge was? Do they still run there? That one use to be measured by the Red Stick Striders and Coach Pete Boudreau would measure it to.

I am talking about the road races that were cross country meets in 1970s and early 1980s. The Catholic High Schools course was definitely short back then, infact people cut the course by the sports fields in the back all the time back then. It wasn't 3 miles officially till the mid 1980s.
Well the dinosaur 🦕 you are talking about had to run in the State meets that were held in December . Then travel to a national level meet sometimes less than 24 hours rest. Jesuit would have had much more time of rest. Then indoor season with meets in January and February BOBBY BECK was hitting sub 9 for two miles not 3200 meters. So 8:53 for two miles after cross country tells you your lads are faster than the dinosaur 🦕 then keep on posting 📫 😉

They had JV football coaches for head cross country coaches back then. This kid at Jesuit knows what to do. Beck didn't do much after high school, infact except for a few fun runs in the mid 1980s he went way. These kids are going to be stars at the D1 level.
This school just had their district meet and they had 3 runners run low 14s for 5k and the whole team ( top 7) broke 15:05 for 5k on a slow course. This destroyed the previous meet and course record. They have been running races all around the country; major meets, and they have absolutely destroyed the other teams and they aren't even running their top guy's.
Hmm...Research time:
1) Only the top 5 broke 15:05, NOT the top 7. #6 ran 15:13. #7 ran 15:24.
2) The race was 3 miles, not 5K.
3) Next!
their 6 and 7 were both in the top 3 on the team last year. But this year their 6 and 7 were plagued by an injury or a sickness
Yeah, this is weird... either the Jesuit coach is a dumbarse or he's ducking the competition. It is VERY easy these days to find out where other teams across the nation are lining up for national meets. He probably wants to go win the mid-major of HS post season meets in RunningLane to say he's a national champion, while ducking Newbury Park and the rest of the big guns at NXN. Pathetic.

The guys think that running 2 big races in the same week is too much

Of all the languages in the world the only one you talk is 💩
You are living in distant past and things weren't accurate in those days. These kids are faster. Dr Beck never went on to do much past high school except lose to Ian Wilkerson in 1984 in a Hump Day 2mile run.

You are nocking the best team in the country. He made the right move.

Typo.** knocking** auto correct.
This is not the best team in the country.... period. These guys have no where close to the PRs on the track that the top 5 teams in the country have. And now homers like you will die on the hill that they are the best team in the country because they won't actually run against the best teams in the country. Until you go head to head with Newbury Park, Crater, CBA, Jesuit OR, and best them, you cannot say that they are the best team in the country.
And if you are defending the "move" of going hard at the weakest state meet in the country to score 15 points and not going hard on the national stage, I will "knock" that coach all day long. If you want to run with the best, you have to do what it takes to run against the best. Would you really rather a meaningless LA state title over winning an NXN title against NP? Seriously you think that's the right move? That's why the state of LA sucks... they don't think big picture or out of their own little fish bowl. They could have gone 70% and still won the LA state meet AND qualified for nationals.
And for those guys saying these guys are the best this state has ever produced, don't forget about Mike Morin from Sulpher... 2 time Footlocker finalist, 8:56, 4:04 in HS (don't count as state records because in 1990, Louisiana didn't count it if it didn't happen at the state meet). Morin went on to get like 10 All-American certificates at the best XC school in the country. Pig souie!

I know Mike. He is a good guy. Needless to say we are looking at a team made up of 7 Mike's. Let that sink in. Please put Shannon Lemora of Central Arizona and Oregon in Mikes class of ability. He is from Port Allen and the New Orleans area too. We are seeing a team made up of 7 guys like those two. Do you realize that Jesuit of New Orleans has 15 fricken kids who can run under 16 minutes for a 5k and 5 to 7 who can run in the 14s. That's a SUPER team. This dude can sign a major money coaching deal right now. Big money!

To bad there are no hills in Louisiana to die on. At least none that Jesuit raced on. Go over to LSU and stand on the Buriel Mounds maybe. But now I know you are talking 💩 because Ian and BOBBY never raced in a Hump day two miler. Go look at the post about indoor track 8:53 time soon after cross country. I see that you read it and still are going to talk your 💩. I think it is great that Jesuit is the best team ever in Louisiana. Gotta go to the biggest one in the nation but we all know that won't happen. What did you do that was ever so great? Put it out there because I know you never beat Bobby Beck.
