All that, plus the small point of her being on the road back from one of the biggest injuries of her career. Rather than jump to the negative and draw tenuous conclusions, important to put the result in proper context...
I would have thought that as a former competitor and coach you would understand that if you are in 1st and in control of a race you don't need to run faster and risk a blow up or injury. It's not a time trial or a workout where you are working toward a specific time it's a RACE.
Why hate on runners running races at less than 100%? Would you prefer they sharpen up in practice and race once in between Olympic cycles? Have you heard of rust busters? Are pros not allowed to have them?
I wonder what her medium-term plan is here. Shooting for a marathon next fall? The spring seems too soon, but who knows. Wonder if she'd try to run the '24 Marathon trials or just focus on majors and other high profile road races in the 10k-half range?
She's 59th all-time, 3000m. She's tied for 303rd all-time 10 miles. 1/2 Marathon is very competitive. Let's see her get in the top 250 all-time 1/2 Marathon before we make her a Marathoner.
Time doesn't matter if you're a road runner. You get paid according to place. At 36, she's not gonna be on any more Olympic/World Championship teams.
Sara hall and kiera d’amato both made their first world championship team at 36+
its not impossible but very unlikely she will make anything other team
Remember why EVERYONE starts running Good Health and Fun, That said I can see Simpson under 68 Minutes for the Half Marathon and under 2:23 for the Marathon, which is very good, The Question is how much under, She is probably every bit as and likely more talented than Sisson, D' Amato and Hall

Agree that she's unlikely to ever be a true marathoner (i.e., it will never be her best event nor will she ever be a real contender), but she seems interested in giving it a shot. More power to her -- it'll be interesting to see how it goes for someone who specialized in the 1500 for a decade.
I neglected to mention an event and performance level she needs before trying Marathon. She needs a sub-32 10K on the road for her confidence. She doesn't want to race 2:40 Marathon just to say that she raced a Marathon.
Come on Rojo! Do you like simply taking threads away from other posters?
I've now merged two threads together. The other thread was titled, "Jenny Simpson Wins Army Ten Miler" Before I started my thread, I looked to see if there was a thread on it. I didn't see it. It's because it had fallen to page 2.
I can't help it that many posters haven't spent years developing a brand name on letsrun like yours truly. ;) When I post, it gets a response. I always tell people the key to a thread is the title. And yes I'll admit it helps to be hated by 1/3rd of the audience as that also draws respones ;)

Rojo, what would LR be without the 'brand names', trolls, and political hatred? Just another shut down or boring message board? :)
