But this is letsrun, where your dreams come true....
Can we at least offer him an incentive?
Let’s leave money out of this. Rojo loves attention. He will relish being able to say “I told you I could do it. I told you I’ve still got it. I told you the super shoes are a big deal.” Now deep down Rojo probably doesn’t have it in him anymore and much of this is not his fault. However if he could run healthy and have a good build-up of course he could do it. But those are big ifs. The only money would be if many of us committed to becoming Supporter Club members if he broke 3. But then I’d be concerned about PEDs or Wejo running in his bib.
ROJO versus the swedish guru is the battle we deserve. Neither one of them will every break 20 for a 5k, let alone a 3 hour marathon or age group record.
As a Letsrun Supporters Club member, I demand Rojo Wejo and Jon Gault prove that your dreams become reality here, and that if Kipchoge can run a WR at age 43 they can all at least run sub3 in a race together.
All 3 have excellent PRs and should make it look easy. If they can’t do it, how will the rest of us ever do it? You can’t be an avid running fan and not run.
If he wants a flat course (less than 10 feet total climb) and some good tangents, the Erie Marathon is the way to go. Good depth of competition around his target time. Only problem is whether its date in the first half of September would interfere with his journalistic duties.
[Full disclosure: Erie is where I've clocked my fastest masters time.]
As someone who recently broke 3 hours in the marathon in my 60's (albeit downhill), I did a little back of the envelop calculation based on rojo's latest mile time trial at what is sounding like about 90kg.
The biggest problem facing rojo, or any other aging marathoner is that if you were say a 2:23 marathoner in your 20's/30's and you suffer the normal 10% per decade absolute VO2Max decline after 30 (which it looks like rojo has based on his PB's and mile time trial) then you have to be within about 5kg of your 20's/30's racing weight to break 3 hours in your 50's.
I'm guessing for rojo that was about 65kg, so got to drop about 20kg somehow to get down to around 70kg.

Nice post. I guess we shouldn't get our hopes up...
January 2025 at the Houston Marathon - Rojo vs. Greg vs. Magic Wizard. Three enter the arena, only one comes out. The winner gets to stay on LRC, the losers are banned for life and never allowed to post again!
Rojo as hows you're marathon training going as you said "wow as my wife said she'd kill me if i didn't run under three hours for the marathon for i die as she said "rojo as how your marathon training going as Ill kill you if you don't run under three hours marathon before you die""
how much you're running every day? a lot probably as you have to run a lot to run under three hours marathon as you're probably running a lot
