Fisher came back some
FISHER, finished strong. Could have run those last 120 meters smarter??
Grant learned about Lane 3!!! Huge. Strong third.
No, Monson and Grant won't win.
Lol at the commentator saying "it's lights out racing" when the lighting was at it's worst. Couldn't even read their bibs
Man if Fisher was a little more rested for this…. He ran very smart on tired legs.
Lol Kipkorir Kimeli to me sandbagged that one to perfection. Indoor track style racing. Maybe holding back in Brussels was by design? Had that extra juice today that others didn’t.
What a WILD race. So much more interesting than a 400 meter track race but the lesson to be learned is the same as it on the 400 meter tracks - never do any of the work. My god I can't believe Aregawi finished that far back. He led the whole thing. Fisher was like dropped and 7th but somehow finishes 3rd. Aregawi leads the whole thing and then is a non-factor and finishes 5th. And Berega was sitting pretty in 2nd but ends up 7th.
Great race by Grant, really hate this track, the city track is a cool idea just shouldn't be so weirdly shaped and curved
I honestly thought Nicholas Kimeli was out of it.
Kenya gets 4 now too. Considering they have 3 under 12:55 this season and a bunch of young guys at 13:00-13:05, that could be large. Also opens up Kipkorir Kimeli to run the 10,000.
I'll have to see the replay but damn if Grant wasn't boxed on that last turn and behind a flailing Aregawi who was going backwards.
This street track feels like an insult to the 5000 runners. Why would you have the DL championship in some weird novelty road race/indoor track hybrid environment? The outcome likely would have been different had this been in the proper venue.
But it begs the question, will Nike build an exact replica in Beaverton if this nonsense will continue every year?
Some of those turns look dangerous especially in the final laps with people jostling for position
Holy Sh*t. Fisher was awesome. He beat Kimeli by 4 seconds in brussels and Krop bombed out here. I got Fisher 2nd now in the world after Jakob. Wow! America is actually a 5000/10000 power now!
Commentators were both spot on saying that Aregawi looked spent with one lap to go.
If you include the 3,000 perhaps. But Kipkorir Kimeli with 2 marquee DL wins, Kenyan title and a very good Comm Games silver now has an argument tough Worlds notwithstanding.
Krop still has the silver medal and two top-2 DL finishes to his name.
I do think this race would’ve been perfect for Jakobs style had he’d been in it. Would’ve waited Aregawi out and been a bit closer than the top 3 were.
Grant deserves an African nickname like Craig Mottram had.
2nd without a single win? Preposterous.
Why did Krop DNF? Hope it wasn't an injury situation.
Holy F****ing Sh**. Employee 1.1 just broke 15:00 for 5000 for the 1st time at age 36.
