Mate no one race defines a runner. Just look at Oli Hoare who ran poorly at the WC and then a couple of weeks later ran the race of his life to win gold at the CWG in a record time. Also it's very easy for a keyboard warrior such as yourself to sit back and criticize an athlete when you have no idea of what may have contributed to how they ran.
You ask us to compare him and Hocker. Why can’t we hold PROFESSIONAL RUNNERS to the same standard, regardless of age? Hobbs has had well over a year to adjust. If he’s going to be representing my country on an international stage, I’m going to critique him. and, really? “You can’t critique an NBA player because you can’t dunk.”
There have been similar posts on LR where it turns out a runner tripped up and fell or stepped on the rail or ... but alas it was off camera as they are not leading. Also injured, ill, etc. But apparently to the forum posters it can mean their career is over. In addition to what you mention. Tiny meet worth nothing, low attendance. Maybe a hamstring grabbed and he decided to avoid ending his season or career by listening to his body.
I have run 3:44 and no way in hell could I have come close to 2:16. It's a disappointing run for him for sure.
Our sport is so obscure. At this point we don’t know what happened to him. Tripped? Injury? Bad day? There is no reporting. Even with social media, pro athletes don’t report anything to the “fan” base. We don’t know if he will be running again this summer. If he is, we don’t know where and when. If I was in Europe right now, I could not plan to see him run if I wanted to. I would find out too late or maybe even after it happens.
Same for Hocker. Cryptic Instagram post saying that he is in Hungary. Is he racing there? When? What about after?

3:44??? R u kidding me? I thought he was in 3:33 shape which is what Nuguse ran today.
Anyone who continues to use, "goes home devastated" is a fvcknig twat, incapable of original thought. GFY.
Totally agree. Absolutely no originality at all and almost always based off little or no fact. Hobbs was most likely a bit disappointed but I'm sure he's shrugged it off and over it already.

It’s dumb.
I kind of know, but would be accused of being "too emotional" and excuse making.

No, if you actually posted Hobbs is racing at xxx on xxx and Hocker is racing at xxx on xxx, no one would downvote you. You are being downvoted for vague posting and posting things that aren't related to the person's post you are responding to.

Agreed. I don't understand why some of these brands invest a good bit of money into these athletes that disappear 9 months of the year and have little to no social media presence. I like Hocker and think hes a fantastic runner, but I can't imagine Nike gets a good ROI on him showing up to race 5x a year with no fanfare.
At least people like Ollie are very active on social media / youtube & are very open about training/racing with their fans. I would bet ON has gotten a better return on the OAC group than some of these Nike superstars that basically live in anonymity. The athlete special and his 70K subscribers probably will sell more shoes than signing another anonymous NCAA champ.

I posted every Kessler race scheduled since he got to Europe, either you were not paying attention or had no interest. There was one I was off on, because an entry got botched. I also said he would be in 9/4 race, when others said It was the "other" Kessler, and I insisted he would be in, and he was the whole time and was not listed until day of. He is done with Europe 38+ days is a long stretch for anyone. There was no vagueness at all.
