I don't think anyone expected this time after his impressive 2:16. Maybe he really just is primed for speed right now and the 1500 was a shock to his system. The day he ran 2:16, his teammate Mason Ferlic (whose not a 1500 guy, granted) had to drop out of his 1500m.
Maybe their training has just left them ill-prepared for this particular event? The 1500 is certainly a unique distance, so if you don't have the right systems firing on all cylinders, you can't expect a beastly time.
Some other posters said he went for it early and just faded bad, but I haven't seen the video yet.

Even after I went to great lengths to explain why I thought Hocker is the safer bet to have a bright future in the “Cole or Hobbs - whose running future would you want?” thread, I am not happy to see this result. I can’t understand why anyone would be.
