I need some traction assistance for winter runs in Chicago. I've used Yaktrax strap-on things for dog-walking but worry about their durability for running. This would be on the road, typical mix of snow, ice, slush, wet.
Thanks.

See if you can source a pair of VJ Icehero
Self-piercing gutter screws, so the screw head contacts the road.
Around 6 in each shoe.
Vs Yaktrak…lighter, fine on clean pavement, cheaper, and just way less annoying overall.
Can’t use on Nikes with air pockets.
Check out the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 Shield and Saucony Peregrine ICE+.
I really like both shoes for winter training. Personally, I think the ICE+ grip better on slippery pavement (not as well in thick snow), and the Shield work really well getting through deeper snow covered sidewalks (I don't think they work as well on icyish surfaces).
Urban running presents challenges because you hit a variety of conditions (ice, snow, slush, the ground can start off wet and slowly become icy as you run, etc), but these shoes can help keep you upright on bad days.
Yep. I've doing this for... 30 years! No need to put any in the middle of the shoe. Just put 6 around the edges. They "click" on pavement and they will tear up carpet and hardwood floors so don't put them on inside the house until you're at the door.
Exactly what I use. They work perfect!
I've also used them on work boots for added traction during the winter.
agree
3/8" or 1/2" self tapping screws are good on snow or ice
a treadmill
Kahtoola nanospikes for hard/icy surfaces.
Kahtoola microspikes for snow+ice, and trail. They are the favorite for Alaska winter use I've seen.

Why didn't I see your post before I fell while jogging... Did you use such a device, how does it affect the work of the foot, does it not create an additional load on the foot?
Run in trail shoes.
