You have to take a look at who Bekele raced in championships. At the OG in Athens Bekele got beat in 5000m by 3:27 SB El Guerrouj. Jakob ran 1500m in Tokyo only 0.5s slower than El G's SB in 2004.
In WC in 2009 Bekele narrowly beat 3:32 SB Lagat. Jakob could run 3:32 in a workout - solo.
Therefore it is absolutely likely that Jakob could beat Bekele in a championship 5000m with no pacers. Jakob is also tactically savvy and surely would have a say on how the race unfolds.
So? Jakob would be doubling with 1500m, just like El G or Lagat used to. I see no significant superiority, especially considering Jakob is still only 21 years old and is yet to reach his peak in the next 2-3 years.
If 3:27 El G could beat Bekele, so could 3:28 Jakob.
Disagree. Jakob has shown utter destruction of all time fields. His accomplishments are already way above Bekele. You can't compare Jakob to a lowly 3:32 runner.

Jakob - 1x Oly Gold, 1x WC Gold, 2x WC Silver, 7x Euro Gold, 1x Euro Silver, Bekele - 3x Oly Gold, 6x WC Gold, 1x Oly Silver, 1x WC Bronze, 14x World XC Gold, 1x World XC Silver, 1x 5000m WR (unbroken for 16years), 2x 10,000m WR (unbroken for 15years)
Jakob beats Bekele in European Medals because Bekele obv wasn't eligible to compete.
Bekele's accomplishments dominate Jakob, both in medals, times, and WR's.
Jakob is 21 years old. The OP was peak Bekeke versus Jakob in the 5000, and I think peak Bekele beat’s today’s Jakob most of the time, but not every time. However, there’s a very good chance we are not seeing Jakob’s peak yet. If you want to compare their greatness, we need to wait a decade and see what Jakob accomplishes. In the end, my money is on Jakob besting Bekele’s track times and accomplishments. Only time will tell. Of course he’s not done it yet, he’s too young.
Jakob did 3.31.18 at 17 before Carbon spikes, which is over a second faster than bekele ever did. A 3000m would be the most interesting distance between them, everything under would be an advantage for Jingy
Kenenisa was always doubling back from the 10000m. Kenenisa was a superior runner to Jakob and also had more guts.

I think prime Muktar Edris is a better comparison.
Wait til we are sure it’s “prime” Jakob before staging that fantasy race!
The book is closed on Bekele. Jakob’s career is still young. It’s impossible to conclude that Jakob is currently better now at the 5000 than Bekele was over his career. It’s not close at the moment. At the same time there is more to suggest that Jakob can match and exceed Bekeke over time than to suggest he cannot. Anybody who is concluding that Jakob cannot possibly match Kenny is not paying attention. Jakob probably has 10-15 years of meaningful racing ahead of him.

you're assuming a direct correlation between those times and not other factors like how fast they close and other strengths weaknesses.
Bekele could close fast off fast or slow paces...with the fastest I've seen off a fast pace being a 53 flat in a 12:48 race (I posted video a couple pages ago). Pretty sure he went under 53 off slower paces but don't recall the races
What's the fastest final lap Jakob has done ever in a 5,000m regardless of final time? (I honestly don't know but would venture his high 53 is the fastest I recall). ElG had to go mid 52 and same with Lagat doing a sub 52 to beat Bekele in 2006 diamond league. Can Jakob close that fast? if so, then yeah, he might have a chance in a slower race.

Yeah well you have no clue. Kenenisa in the super spikes runs 7:21, 12:30 and 3:30. End of debate.
Yeah well Jakob on Bekeles full blast EPO goes 7:13, 12:18, and 3:24. End of debate now
If the pace up to the last mile is >13:00, which it was in this race. Then Jakob can close the last mile in 3:55.
Jakob wins.
Only way for Bekele to beat Jakob would be to have someone sacrifice himself and run 12:39 pace, then Bekele picks it up and close fast enough to to run a 12:37.
this is also blasphemous. They could run 5 min pace for 8 laps and Bekele would still win. Bekele routinely ran 52-53 for last laps. Jakob would get out kicked in every scenario.
Used to agree but now that’s just not true. You really think a 3:32 runner can beat a 3:28 runner over 1800m ????? That’s just a dumb suggestion, Jakob can front run a sub 3:30 just like he did at worlds and Bekele has no way to stay on his shoulder because that’s not the distance he trains for and not the distance he’s made for. But I do agree Bekele would destroy Jakob at 5000m.
It’s too early. Bekele’s 10k dominance will be hard to match, although I recognizing it’s more challenging to dominate at the 1500 because it’s less predictable. But, maybe Jakob could similarly good at the 15/5, as Bekele at the 5/10… we just can’t tell yet, and he’s not there yet (granted he’s had a legendary 2021/2022 and looks well-poised for 2023-2025). But, it is not clear to me what would happen in a head to head 5k based on to-date peak fitness for each of them. I suspect Bekele would win more often than not. He didn’t have the same 1500 fitness but he did have unbelievable closing speed AND was incredible at long drives for home… such that it isn’t clear to me that Jakob’s 15 speed would necessarily give him an advantage in a 1k-out sprint for home. And look, Jakob is probably in low 12:40s shape, but Bekele still had better absolute fitness, and I don’t think Jakob would have that many tools to beat him, recognizing that it doesn’t seem like anyone else in the world right now is a favorite to beat him in any championship 5k. Bekele was just on another level. He was the king of distance and the clear #1 for both championship and time trial races.
