4a way too early predictions 2023 boys 1- Dowling Catholic. Keeps a lot of guys but won’t be a clear favorite without Heidesch/Milligan/Klocke. But they will have guys come out of nowhere. 2- Ankeny. Surprise third place finish at state with only 1 person leaving. Could contend for a title especially with the momentum they had 3- Valley. Losing no one but will need to close the 4-5 gap to challenge for a title 4- Cedar Falls. Loses 3 guys but keeps a strong 1/2 including Merrick. Also has another freshman run at NXR who isn’t Merrick 5- Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Loses Wilson but keeps everyone else 6- Dubuque Hempstead. Solid program. Only loses 1 person 7- DCG. New to class 4A. Did not make state, but also did not have a senior 8- Norwalk. Placed 4th at state. Returns 3 state runners including another 16:30 who hasn’t raced much. They will just need to find a fifth 9- Waukee Northwest. Returns 4 of their top 5. Needs a fifth 10- Ames. Did not qualify from state, but returns 5 sub-17 guys
