Any thoughts on Lancaster? Should they have finished higher? Could they have won it?
they had a strong 1-3. Were their 4/5 farther back than expected?
The triplets ran incredibly well. All three in the top 22. Their 4-5 were subpar today, otherwise they'd be champs. Their #5 was like #110 - about the same as he was a year ago. Still, an amazing season by them.
True. But individually this race was all Central OH.
Team-wise, you can't discount the fact that Lakota and Mason are the two biggest schools in the state (4000+). And St X has 2000+ boys.
Your numbers are not correct.
If the Lakota SD had just one high school like Mason does, it would be the largest high school. Mason has 3500 students and is the largest high school in Ohio.
In terms of enrollment, these are the largest 10 high schools. The numbers are approximate.
I don't follow it as closely as most of you, but in looking at the consolidated results Marlington -- which I'd never heard of -- was 2nd, not far off from Mason. In addition to winning individual & team Div 2. Pretty impressive.
Fair enough, but still more boys than my D1 school has students (1270).
And D2 Marlington has been better than St. X two years in a row now.
It’s not just school size. If it was, explain why all those other big schools weren’t in the mix today too?
Over time school size most definitely plays a role. The post I was responding to referenced the Cinci region's team dominance over the past 4-5 years, namely Mason, St X, and Lakota W. All huge schools.
Sure, a team like Marlington can have a run - it helps when you get studs like Cernansky and Graham- or like Lancaster this year with the Lanoys.
But over time, given two programs with equally passionate and knowledgable coaches, the school with 3x students will almost always emerge more successful.
In Ohio D1 XC, you have a ridiculous range of enrollments, since there are only 3 divisions total. If Ohio organized XC like some of their surrounding states (Mich, for one), nearly half of the teams currently in D1 would be reclassified as D2.

I agree and this is an issue. It is often discussed. There probably should be a division for the “mega schools” like Mason, the Lakotas, Centerville, St X boys, probably some of the Columbus schools, Mentor, Iggys, etc, Maybe out the 20-25 largest schools in that division. Have 3 more divisions after that. As it is now there are schools competing against each other in the same division with huge differences in enrollment. There should be 4 divisions in track & cross country.

Yeah it’s sad that their 4/5 couldn’t get it done
could have won this title. Has Lancaster ever won the state meet before?

They have one of the best historical programs in the state. Ziska in the late 70s was a sub 14 guy, Brannon Kidder nearly broke 4 (4:02) in the early 2010s, and as noted, they've won the team title twice.
