No McNabb was the same age and Reid knew he was slipping and robbed Washington in a trade. The "Hoodie" hoodwinked the Bills with the Bledsoe trade and he never was good again and he wasn't older than 30. This trade will be viewed as those trades.
Nobody threw the passes they throw now. Everything was down the field the West Coast 5 yard slant wasn't much of pattern until the 49ers used it to win championships with Rice.
There is no comparisons with eras as passing is joke now for completion percentages and interceptions.
There is nothing in his game suggesting he has lost anything, I see keeping on with what he has been doing but will miss Lockett. Maybe losing a step at 38ish.
Is he 38 now? It sure seems like it. He is 34 going on 44.
If R Wilson has plenty of money saved, end of season is a great day for a career change. R Wilson has thrown for over 300 career touchdowns. R Wilson has less than 100 career interceptions. His touchdown to interception ratio will only get worse. His average yards per carry will only get worse. His touchdowns as percentage of passes thrown will only get worse. R Wilson has rushed the ball a lot, going back to NC State days. Hits are cumulative. Finish the season and move on.
Tarkenton was amazng and is STILL way up there with the stats BUT...
Things were different in his day, he never had a 30 TD season never had a 4000 yard season, never had a 100 passer rating, hell he had seasons where he threw more INT;s than TD's. He never rushed for over 354 yards in a season. But he was still among the very elite, actually the on;y old timers among the stat leaders.
What got me was Unitas got all the props while Tarkenton was the better QB.
Tarkenton has 342 passing TD's, Wilson will have around 325ish after this season, so he should pass him into 12th place all time.

Rice just made the WCO better. The Niners had won two Super Bowls before Rice came aboard. You're right though that the offenses at the time were grind it out and throw it deep for the most part.
This all brought about what became the "Tampa 2" defense designed to essentially let 'em catch it and then tackle immediately rushing only 4.
Playing the Chiefs, Russ was just in the grasp, spun around, and threw the ball blindly up in the air. There was absolutely no regard for who was around or the result. Interception of course. One of the worst QB plays I've witnessed.
