Someone shows their true colors. I can assure you he doesn't care who bests him, just that he gets beat. In the post race interview he was only blaming himself. So weird to not celebrate the amazing Wightman and rather hate on Ingebrigtsen. From Norway we hope that Tim comes back to top shape so he gets back to being the big force in 1500 again. We don't have the same nasty attitude as El Keniano that has to retort to hating on runners.
Oh.My.Sides! Are you serious? This dude, his dad and brothers have a history of hating of hating on other runners. Fortunately, I have receipts. Just a couple: Look up his quote on Marcin Lewandoski after he beat him to bronze in Doha. Something about finishing behind "worse" runners. Tim was super kind and gracious after losing the Olympics last year. Remember the bracelet? But that didn't stop his dad from declaring he'd never lose to him again. Then there's that quote about not being disappointed at Wightman not being better.
Is it an Norwegian thing? Warholm also took potshots at Rai after the Olympics.
el keniano is scorned from Jakob taking down one of his heroes. nothing to see here.
Great race. These races are so much more fun and intense when the field is getting after it from the start rather than running 60s.
I'm still shocked Ingebrigtsen didn't have an answer in the last 100. Kind of reminiscent to this year's indoor final and Jakob not be able to respond to Tefera's move (yeah, I know he said he had Covid then). Can't wait for the Diamond League final - revenge or deja vu?
Poor Tim, Abel Kipsang, Coach Ouma and Rongai getting absolutely flogged by Kenyan media and Twitter LOL 😂 You ever wonder why Kenyans are afraid to lose.
They have a chance for some measure of redemption at the Commonwealth Games. What a weird year for Kenya. Not much expected in 10,000 on mens side and they snag a shock silver. Close to a 1-2 on women side with two women who’d never won medals there. Get a good 2-3 there. Marathon get a silver from not who you were expecting. But now in the 15 a goose egg. Faith is the only thing that was truly to form. Interested to see how Kimeli and Krop go fresh against some fired-up studs like Jakob, Aregawi, Barega, Fisher who will want redemption.

This is so weak. Hating at a dude because of his dad and brothers? Pot shots? "A norwegian thing"? What is happening? You need to cope a bit better than lashing out like this. Still sore because Gjert almost accurately predicted Jakob would never lose to Tim again? It wasn't an attack just a prediction based on his sons trajectory. You surely cannot be this thin skinned.
Ingebrigtsens say it like it is. Lewandowski IS a worse runner than Jakob. The whole world agrees on that. It was likely that Jakob would never lose to Tim again. This is just truths and predictions, no reason to be upset about it.
Nah. That whole family is just inelegant and ungracious that can be seen in incidents like Filip behaviour towards Adel Mechaal at the 2017 finals when he illegally robbed him of a bronze medal.
Look. There's competitive swagger like Noah Lyles trying to get into Erriyon Knighton's head in the braggadocious style made famous of Muhammad Ali. Then there's the just mean-spirited comments the Ingebrigtsens make about competitors' chances, talent and lack of success.
People here know me, I root talent over nationality. I supported Galen Rupp when his own countrymen were hating on him on the board. Jakob Ingebrigtsen is very talented and has a great career ahead of him. But good thing he doesn't need my support because he won't be getting it.

I think northern Europeans just speak like this—super matter of fact and seems blunt to American ears. Especially that quote that's being trotted out via schadenfreude now. There's nothing wrong with what Jakob said—can't be disappointed that others are not better. It wasn't a burn, it was a shrug. And English is not his first language so maybe it comes off stronger than he would intend. But I find it refreshing. Trash talketh commenth.

Lots of Americans on here. They're not going to understand cultural differences. And if the Scandinavians (or Finns, for that matter, ie Räikkönen) are too much, heaven forbid they encounter a German!
Jakob and his brothers are super dry, forward, self-deprecating, and funny. This seems to be the opposite of the Kenyan mentality, and it certainly seems to rub some African fans the wrong way (although funny enough, all the racers, including the Kenyans, seem to like and or respect the brothers).
No one should be surprised that Jakob is particularly disappointed to lose to Wightman, since he's owned him and all other Europeans except for Lewandowski in a slow race since he rose to the world stage. But things change quickly. Wightman pushed overdistance training in the off-season and was stronger when it counted. Nor should anyone be surprised about arrogant remarks from Jakob. As he rose, the ambition for any other European, including his brothers, was merely to win Euros. Jakob was different. He believed from a very early age he could be the best in the world and he did it. That confidence was absolutely key to his success. Prior to him, Europeans, particularly white Europeans, had long before lost belief that they could compete with Africans. As I've always said, it is all about the training who gets good, but the motivation and ambition are prior to the training and enable guys in just as good shape to contend for the win. You have to think you're the best, as Jakob and Kerr and previously Cheruiyot thought. Back in the 1980s, Ovett, Coe, and Cram all had that mindset.
