Yes, That is why the Politicians in California want to grow lots and lots of trees to improve the climate, it is unrealistic to prevent people from Travel, So that is why Governor Newsom and others want to grow lots of trees as that will help the climate immensely.
It shouldn't directly impact the remaining programs. Stanford, Oregon, Arizona State, Washington will continue on pretty much as they have. The downstream effect it'll have is on budgets that will be supported (or not) by the revenue to be gained (or lost) in the next round of negotiations for the PAC 12 Network. Let's not get into the fact that it's basically a nonexistent network to most people watching sports on TV in the USA. The money from the broadcast contract goes a long way to supporting non-revenue sports at these schools. Without USC and UCLA football, basketball, etc. as part of the package, the conference takes a hit in negotiations. They've got to add schools with decent alumni bases to have a prayer. Colorado, Utah, Washington St. and Oregon St. don't really pull a lot of weight there to soften the loss of USC and UCLA.
This should read "Meanwhile, G5 schools rely heavily on donations to the athletic department and student "activity fees" to fund their football programs, all in the hopes of going to some bowl game that will have an announced attendance of 10,000 with actual attendance being that of a local, small town high school football game. All this, so they can cut other sports in the athletic department because they spend so much on their football team."
Wait! What? I thought Californians were concerned about climate change. This move will greatly increase the carbon footprint of those programs.

The conference realignment is absurdly out of whack, IMHO.
So, with that move the Big TEN(???) conference will have 16 teams and stretch from NJ to CA.
Let me guess, one will be in the East Division and the other will be in the West.
The Big 10 has the East & West divisions now. If this happens they’ll need to take a few of the current teams in the west & put them in the east.
I agree that all of this realignment stuff is out of control. This is totally being driven by media markets. Rutgers was added to get the NYC media $. If this really happens the Big 10 will have a presence in the 3 largest media markets - NYC, Chicago, and LA.
This is not a good thing. I grew up as an Ohio State football fan and one of the things I looked forward to (prior to the BCS stuff), was seeing who would win the Big 10 and go to the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes won a lot, went to the Rose Bowl a lot, and, unfortunately, got their butts kicked a lot, but the anticipation of those games have a lot of memories for me. I still like the Rose Bowl. I guess that will be no more. Regardless of who the Big 10 representative was in the Rose Bowl, even if scUM, I was a fan of that team in that game.
You dont have to wait until Jan 1st to watch Ohio State play USC or UCLA.

Oh, it's not...Ohio State was granted a trademark of the word THE as it relates to their merchandise and their use of the word for marketing. It doesn't stop anyone else from using the word "the" in other contexts, though...at least this is how I read below.
The Ohio State University has successfully obtained a trademark registration for the word “THE,” which has been the university’s moniker and rallying cry at sporting events for decad
Wow. This is pretty surprising. I wonder how those teams will like playing in Ann Arbor in November.
Because USC hasn't had several games in South Bend in November?
USC hasn't played in South Bend in November since the 50s. They couldn't handle the cold so they moved the ND home game up to October. I can't wait to see them line up for a November football game outdoors in Minnesota.
B1G schools are negotiating a new contract with BTN. They were already expecting a big bonus, now if this happens they will be absolutely bathing in money. But again, this money will only go back to feeding the monster, it won't be used to help track and cross country.
They don't realize that they could actually rake in a lot more money by promoting track and cross country, since track is the biggest high school sport in the nation. "Hey track runners, come to the B1G, look at the great opportunities here..." That would help make the conference extremely popular across the country and around the world.
But I don't have any hope they will realize that. They just want to keep feeding their current cash cow, they have no interest in expanding it to other sports.
I just hope the formal break-off doesn't hurt revenue in minor sports. I am surprised this is happening so quickly. When will FSU, Clemson, and Miami leave the ACC?

Nah, they will get rid of divisions. Follow ACC lead and have 3 permanent opponents and the rest will rotate. SEC is likely going that way.
There is talk of adding more teams, but I am not sure what other teams bring what is needed: football cache and tv sets (or streaming).
I wonder if the Big12 is in a position to grab Utah and CO. Utah has done well in football in the Pac10 (going to start calling it that again). Maybe Oregon, Washington and Stanford. But no other schools make sense geographically or in terms of tv and football prowess. Or does Pac10 try to poach some Big 12 schools.

That is tricky as the ACC had each school sign over its tv rights through 2035. That means the schools would be on the hook for a few hundred million dollars each.
I am sure some attorneys are looking at the language of the contract to see if there is an out, but there might not be.
It might help the sports. The Big10 brings in way more money for each team than the Pac12 did. So while costs will go up, the revenue bump may offset that and then some. Many Big10 schools field a lot of sports already.

It’s cold and snowy in Minnesota, but that couldn’t stop one University of Minnesota football staff member from enjoying a frozen treat. A man identified as Gophers sideline phone technician Dan Lehman decided Saturday aftern...
