Does Marcus Reilly not really focus on XC or is he more of an 800-mile track guy? I’m not sure why he didn’t run the big races to get a good speed rating last year, but if his fitness extends out to 5k and he focuses on it, he seems like the no. 1. He’s a top pick to be the first sub-4 miler from this group.
Yeah I think Marcus Reilly should be in there. Probably take out Conway since his 8:59 was not so long ago.
I’d leave Doshi in there since was faster than Nico Young was as a sophomore, even though he hasn’t broken 9 minutes yet.
And I can see Doshi step up really big to carry the torch after the Sahlmans and the Youngs graduate. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins the national meet in 2023 to keep the “best runner in the nation is from Newbury Park” tradition going.
No. They should be preseason 1, 2, 3, but someone(s) elsewhere will develop and break up the group. Here’s my random prediction.
1. Lex or Leo
2. Birnbaum or Burns
3 Lex or Leo
4. Birnbaum or Burns or Gorze
5. Sahlman
6. Some Sophomore or Junior
Agree with this but actually think Gorze is most likely to hit that second spot. There are tons of crazy underclassmen as well who could break it up. Recupero in Washington is a crazy undertrained taken with 4:07/9:02 as a freshman.
Recupero has a faster teammate Blanchet who returns next year and is not on this list.

Doshi needs to bring his mile time down in order to make major progress at 3200 and up. Right now his best mile is 4:20.68 which as we know is not fast.

hey lex and gorze raced the 5k this spring. gee i wonder if one of them won by a considerable margin. guess we’ll have to wait for cross country!
No one will beat the Youngs. Potential candidates to beat Aaron Sahlman: Connor Burns (8:45 2-mile (faster than Aaron’s 3200 time), 3:58 mile) Simeon Birnbaum (3:59 mile) Rocky Hansen (4-flat mile (slightly faster than Aaron’s 1600), 8:46 2-mile (faster than Aaron’s 3200)) Devan Kipyego (4 flat mile) Chris Caudillo (his 3200 is 3 seconds faster than Aaron’s 3200) Maybe Tyrone Gorze but his mile time wasn’t faster than Aaron’s but he had some awesome 5K and 10k times in track
I don’t know why people seem to forget Sahlman ran 8:01 for 3k indoors. That’s an 8:36~ 2 mile for someone who has also run 1:48. Not to mention, he only ran the mile twice the whole season.

I know Fall 2023 is way too far ahead but I think it would be fun to make a wayyyyyy to early prediction for the top 10 for that year. Although there might be some sophs or juniors come out of the woodwork even this coming fall.
1. Keegan Smith 2. Jimmy Wischuen 3-5: the 3 Parras 6. Will Conway 7. Vincent Recupero 8. Patrick Koon 9. Seth Norder 10. Dev Doshi
I think there will be at least 2 juniors in the top 10 in fall 2023.

And don’t forget about Luke Athay who was a top sophomore at Eastbay champs.

I think Sahlman has more to give.
Another reason why Sahlman will finish 3rd at nationals is because he has training partners that are more elite than anyone else does.

And it’s important to not leave out Jake “14:57” Liebert
No mention of Josiah Tostensen, now sophomore from Crater high school? He’s the national freshman record holder in the mile and the track 5k. He will run something crazy this year and will be a dark horse as a champion for RL, NXN, or FL in 2023 and 2024.

Yes, Tostensen will be a dark horse for top 10 next year.
I think Ty Steorts and Brayden Marshall from Wv could crack this list too. One is a soph and the other is a junior. Both went sub-15 in the 5K.
Texas had 2 juniors go sub-15 but idk how much this says because the courses in tx are real fast.
A couple of more underclassmen I would like to mention: Cooper Watson — 10 - ran a 15:03 this year.
2 from Southlake Carroll - Blake Bullard - 15:23 - 10 Caden Leonard - 15:29. 9. Coach’s son. Probably the fastest freshman time so far.
The departure of one of their top guys Hunter Hill to Idaho might have motivated those youngsters to step up. Hopefully Hill goes runs for a good team in Idaho.

looks like he is. Rocky Mountain. The team that won state last year and brings back 3 scorers.
Also, Junior Nolan Mcginn from FM ran a 194 speed rating. Definitely a top 10 nonsenior this year. Kid has been making big jumps every year. Freshman year he wasn’t even varsity for FM, he even ended up as the slowest of the 3 freshman boys on the team. Couldn’t break 5:05 in track.
One more big jump next year and he could win nationals. Will be interesting to see what he can do in college too
Lex Young and Leo Young, both Stanford-bound seniors from Newbury Park High, took the top two spots in the boys varsity 3-mile race at the Marmonte League opener at Peppertree Park. The siblings crossed the line almost simult...
There are just a ton of other guys that deserve to be in the conversation of who are the best 10 nonseniors. More than 10 guys ran a faster 1600 than him. And based on the 3200 times he’s probably borderline.
And there many juniors popping out of completely nowhere. Like McGinn who was slowest freshman on his JV team freshman year. Now he ran an insanely high speed rating. Anyone can get top 10 a year from now. Doshi can too, so can people like McGinn, Liebert, or Wischusen.
You can also go from not being good enough to make NXN to winning it in a year, like Aidan Troutner.
And next year since the programs that Doshi and McGinn are part of will be down, they can try to do something special for the program individually. Try to win a national title. Or get top 10 at nationals.
