People say the mile has an easy 15 second conversion at this level from the 1500 but that’s clearly not the case. This is a 3:29 flat 1500 or less. The human body just breaks down a lot even before the 1500 m mark and gets super lactic at this pace. That’s also why the mile is only 3:43.13 with multiple rabbits and a nice prize sum in 1999.
So, I just watched Cram's 3:46 record back in the day. No track lights, no super shoes, (was a pace setter) at the end of 3 laps he is looking left and right and appears as fresh as a daisy and looks incredible on last lap. I am not sure if they did EPO back then.
Yep and he ran a recent 3:49 and barely looked challenged. No surprise that a few weeks later he pulled this off and it's still not at the top of his capabilities.
Most of the rest of the world rarely runs the mile. But sticking with the mile, that's 3.33 seconds slower than El G. Plus 5 seconds for the super shoes, so he's 8.33 seconds slower than EL G. Converting back to metric, 3:26.0 + 8.33 seconds would be 3:34.33 for 1500 meters.

Crazy how Jakob ran 3:31 when he was 17 before the shoes but now that hes 21 and the defending Olympic champ he can only manage 3:34 shape. Such a promising talent, its a shame that he fizzled out. /s
Jakob crushes the mile. 3:46.46. Fastest mile since Webb?
Hoare, wow...3:47.48! Oceania record & big PB.
Truly amazing if you ask me. FINALLY Hoare races in his sponsors spikes and comes home with a massive PB. He'll be in the medal hunt in Oregon if he gets his tactics right this time around. At this point, Jakob is unbeatable and if he doubles it'll be impressive.
If no one helps J.I. with the pace at W.C., he can be defeated. J.I. most likely will be the slowest 400m man at W.C., 1500m. Make him work alone if he wants a fast pace through 1200m.

It's not 15 seconds at 3:46 pace and no one says it is. Its generally considered 16-17 seconds. It's impossible for it to be 15 seconds flat because that would mean you actually speed up for a mile over a 1500. Because an even paced 3:46 flat would require you to come through 1500 at 3:30.60 is which is 15.4 difference seconds difference already without even considering fatigue.
3:46 mile pace is just a bit over 56 per 400, which is 14 per 100m, it then takes about 1.4 seconds to run the 9m at the end so you get 15.4 for running even pace without fatigue counted. It's always been 16-17 seconds.
Even El G's 13.73 per 100m average pace for his 1500m WR would mean him taking 15 flat for the final 109m if he continued at the same average pace he had in that 1500.
I give Jakob about a 3:29mid/high equivalent from tonight's performance, And Ollie Hoare maybe sneaking under 3:31 too.

Wont matter if he can maintain a fast tempo from the front like he did at PRE in not ideal conditions. He was in total control of that effort and nowhere near full throttle holding off the field quite easily. This isnt the same as Centro controlling a field by dawdling and having the ability to match speed. Its more like Rudisha 2012 800 when everyone just jumps on his train and gets pulled to the 8 fastest times for places in history. Shoes or not.

Exactly. Jakob can and will control the pace. No way would he stay in the back of the pack and let others lead the way to a slow pace.

I hate this reasoning referring to age. It's often invoked in the case of Ingerbrigsten.
But people forget Africans when it comes to age (in their cases they say they are age cheating).
Time is running against him when basing progression in term of age.
Morcelli was running 1:44.79 in 800m, age 20 (he is born in February 1970)
And with some months of age difference, he was running 3:44.39 in the mile (year 1993).

However EPO gave El g a 14 second advantage, so he is actually worth a 3:57. On par with Parsons but way behind Jakob
