Curious about how covid impacted training, if at all...
My experience:
I tested positive three weeks ago (vacced and boosted). Training went from 60-70 mpw average, to 15ish the week I tested positive (I stopped running for the rest of the week after the positive test. Doctor's advice was essentially: listen to my body, and don't be an idiot with regard to exercise). Overall, my symptoms were fairly mild. The biggest issue was on-and-off intense fatigue for about three days. I had some minor congestion for two-three days, but nothing crazy. COVID crushed my wife for two weeks (also vacced and boosted).
I felt basically "normal" five days after the positive test, so I returned to training the next week (50ish mpw). Easy training runs were fine (normal perceived effort, normal heart rate, normal pace). However, I attempted an interval session, and was alarmed by how tight my chest felt, and how gassed I was after a few light reps. It felt like I just couldn't take enough air in. I slowed way down, took extra rest and cut the workout short. No issues the next day and I continued with easy runs. I've never experienced that feeling of chest tightness with any other respiratory infection that I've had.
This week easy runs are still completely normal feeling, and workouts are about 85% back to pre-covid levels. Aiming for 55-60 mpw, depending on how things feel. Certainly will be less if I feel off. The chest tightness is still slightly noticeable during workouts, so I have to carefully monitor effort when doing harder stuff.
I'm surprised about how insidious covid was. At this point, I don't know if I'd notice any difference whatsoever with my body if I wasn't training, but it certainly did impact my cardio.
At this point things are progressing well, and I'm hopeful it was just a minor setback.
