Danny White is a classic example of nepotism. He received his first AD position because of his father, plain and simple when he was in his early 30's. His dad Kevin was an AD for the last 35 years and hasn't coached track since the early 1980's. Also while he, Kevin White, was AD, the track and cross programs were below average at best. So to somehow think Danny knows track and distance is a stretch at best.
Kevin White....the AD at Notre Dame that hired Charlie Weis then gave him an extension for guaranteed money. Hired George O'Leary without any resume/education background check. None of the schools were good in track while he was AD, providing very little support.
A background check on Duane Ross pulls this up. “Following the analysis of information received from BALCO in 2010, Ross was called to testify in a case against his coach Trevor Graham. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) suspended Ross for two years for attempted use, possession, and trafficking of performance-enhancing drugs.[6] As a term of his suspension, all his results from November 2001 onward were nullified.[7] “ Wikipedia A dictionary definition of trafficking is “To provide to others, especially in large quantities, in exchange for money” Maybe U.S. Anti-doping can fill in some more details to explain the use of that word. Tennessee athletics has hired a coach who USADA says they banned for attempting to traffic performance enhancing drugs. Did UT know this when they hired him? Does this imply he attempted to assist others in using performance enhancing drugs in the past? How many of you already knew this USADA information?

We already knew this a long long time ago. It isn't new news. Maybe to you its new news.
Ross served his punishment and as a coach has any of his athletes ever been accused of doping or caught doping....No.
Don't worry about paying the National Track Coach of the Year; when this happened and TN. is still paying more fired Football coaches:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has fired Kevin Steele, and the longtime football coach could be paid up to $860,870 in severance for a job he had for seven weeks.
Thats crazy almost a million dollars for seven weeks worth of work. I just don't understand the financial hierarchy of collegiate sports. Forget about all the revenue crap, coaches are making this much money just for scholarships in certain sports to be as tight as they are.
Hardly anyone knows this. It’s buried deep on his wikipedia page and not mentioned in his NC A&T bio. Duane is old only old timers would know this. You must be old too.
“We all know” means Danny White hired a coach who has a history of using and attempting to traffic PEDs. If an athlete uses PEDs at Tennessee by way of coaching pressure and flips on the staff or Duane like he flipped on his buddy Trevor Graham, then Danny and his program would be culpable putting these athletes in harms way. NC A&T is not under the type of NCAA microscope a football driven program like Tennessee would be. Gatlin was busted there. Coleman taken down as well.
According to Malcolm Gladwell Duane Ross might just be an expert in doping or has mastered PEDs as he has put in his ten years or 10,000 hours from 2001 to 2010 according to USADA’s retrograde taking back of all of his wins and medals. It’s like he never ran. That’s a huge punishment. Whatever he did must have been significant and extensive. “We all know” what he did though right? Tell us.
He never tested positive either and was supposedly implicated through BALCO documents. If USADA statements are true as a long time attempted doper and trafficker of PEDs with BALCO he would know exactly how to acquire and distribute PEDs without detection. BALCO was the pinnacle of providing undetectable PEDs to the stars. It would be no surprise if his athletes have not been tested positive if he was still up to his old tricks. It’s a big if. An if and risk a desperate and dying athletic program like Tennessee is willing to overpay to take. So sad.

He is an awesome coach. End of story.
The dude was literally banned for taking and distributing steroids, what more would it take for you to think he’s dirty lol
Duane Ross has never run an elite professional race 2001-2012
Duane Ross has no PRs 2001-2012
Duane Ross is not an Olympian or World team member
Duane Ross doesn’t exist in running at all from 2001 to 2012
He was ERASED from running history by USADA for what he did. That’s how egregious it was.
NC A&T hired him immediately after his ban ended. That is how little they cared about what he does to win.
UT athletic director Danny White knows this information and is so desperate to win he chose the highest caliber cheater he could find.
Yes Duane Ross cheated and he made efforts to help others cheat for a long time. Is he still cheating? SEC athletes and coaches prepare to find out. You may want to ask USADA to start implementing biological passports for all incoming freshmen in the SEC.
Has an entire college team ever had all results and wins erased from history? UT may set a new precedent of pathetic if Ross the Boss is up to his old tricks.
I believe at this point the man put that all behind him and created a new life for himself where he is helping young men and women reach their goals. HBCUs historically aren’t finishing top 3 at NCAA national meets, he did that. Say what you want but that’s cemented In history. He may have made some personal mistakes but don’t we all, and why wouldn’t we want to make a new life for ourselves and leave the past behind. Oh, you would want it brought up after 20+ years? Didn’t think so… don’t be a hater man let it go. If what you’re saying is true then only time will tell. Give it time. Until then congrats to Duane and good luck.
How long does a pattern have to occur for it to stop being a mistake and start becoming a choice?
Duane Ross made his choice to cheat. That was his choice. Having influence over the lives of other people with scholarship incentive affects them and not him.
His choices and bad decision making between 2001 to 2010 indicate he should probably not be making decisions for young athletes. It will come to a head eventually. At the very least it should be discussed. It is not discussed so it can be buried.
I’ll bet the alumni at the University of Tennessee Knoxville do not know Duanes Ross’s history.
I’ve yet to hear a public statement from him describing what he did and condemning it. Instead he has tried to bury it. Where is the public admission, renunciation, repentance?

He doesn’t owe that to anyone. If he did, it’s dead at this point. You bringing it up on a platform like this does what? What does it solve? Is this a positive move or negative one on your part? What are you changing? The man is the new director at Tennessee that’s a done deal. If he hasn’t learned from his past decisions and still has issues with dealing with how to win, how to handle defeat, and the best ways to go about improving his athletes performances it will eventually come out. What’s done in the dark comes to the light at some point. Until then, go make a positive impact in someone else’s life. Focus on what you do and not on what’s going on in someone else’s life.
So whoever said that there was no hire that would please them is right. Tennessee hired one of the objectively best coaches in the country and Letsrun still isn’t happy
Spoke too soon…. One of his athletes (Randolph Ross) just got suspended for tampering with the anti-doping process. common theme here….not a good coaching decision for UT !
