I think you got mixed up on what thread topic you are posting on. Either that or you wish to hijack every thread you go on. On your next post why don't you tell me about your childhood and how you relate to your mother. Maybe there is help for you.
When I was in HS in the 80s, there was only one kid in the entire school who was out of the closet. There were many more who were obviously gay or lesbian but were closeted. Being nonbinary was not even an option back then. Today, the school, which is a private school, has LGBTQ student groups and a chapter of the gay-striaght alliance.
Maher's piece plays into right wing religious extremists views that LGBTQ people are deviants who choose their "lifestyle" much in the same way someone would choose to cheat on their spouse or to watch porn. The idea that children can be "groomed" into becoming LGBTQ is entirely based on the notion that being LGBTQ is a choice that people make and not who they really are.
You really don’t think that if I take a 5 year old boy and tell him he is gay every day for 10 years that he won’t be gay?
You are more delusional or dishonest than I though. I’m just not sure which one it is.
I mean I didn’t like choose to get excited when I first saw the Hit Me Baby One More Time music video. It just happened as I was entering puberty. I’d imagine it works that way for anyone? Biological.
You need to be pretty far right to think Bill Maher is very liberal. Of course there are also basically zero far left people in US politics these days...
Conservatives love doing this identity politics issues cause it distracts from real issues. Trying to actual do something is hard and is likely to lead to you not getting reelected
20 years ago Bill Maher was considered very liberal. Today the Republican party and Bill Maher are pretty much exactly where they were 20 years ago. Meanwhile, the Democratic party has shifted WAY to the left.
It is patently absurd to suggest that "identity politics" is a conservative issue. Identity politics is the literal bedrock of the current version of the Democratic party.
Democrats never do anything hard. They offer free stuff and tell everyone they're victims.
No, identity politics are a distraction. Gay marriage was legalized 7 years ago, since then have there been any major developments (legally) focusing on identity? Sure we spend a lot of time talking about transgender women competing in sports and trans kids talking puberty blockers but in reality this is such a fringe issue, it's strange it takes up so much air time.
Neither Democrats nor Republicans do anything hard. No one has to spine to raise taxes when needed, cut military spending, let big banks fail, fix the broken healthcare system, fix the broken higher education system. I get that some of these things are hot topics, but some just seem like basic math that somehow have become politicized.

I also went to high school in the 80s and we didn't have a single gay kid in our school the 4 years I was there. Any openly gay kids would have been teased mercilessly.
"If this spike in trans children is all biological, why is it regional? Either Ohio is shaming them or California is creating them."
The answer is, Ohio is shaming them.
If you are gay or feel you want to trans but face harsh criticism and shame, you won't come out.
If you are in an area where you will be accepted, you will let your feelings known.
I love how conservatives are loving the Obama donating, Hillary loving, Trump hating atheist Maher.

You must not follow politics at all. Democrats are wholly OBSESSED with identity politics.
The "woman of the year" has been a man more often than not lately because progressives get off on victim worship.
Once you give away the "free sh*t" to the people it is political suicide to try and take it back. That is literally why the Democrats do it. It's also why we're $30 TRILLION in debt with 2/3's of the budget being entitlements.
Dismissing scientific studies because you don't like the picture on the cover is idiotic...
You must not have read the article or seen their website. Their motto is “no child is born into the wrong body” super obvious bent and disingenuous at best. This is the same guy who supported gay conversion camps. LOL, try again

It wasn't an opinion piece it linked to and referenced actual scientific studies.
Why are liberals so oblivious to reality??
You consume information that is ENTIRELY advocating for 1 side of an argument and then clutch your pearls and reject any source that provides a counter argument.
The New York Times is NOT impartial. As biased as you think the other side is... the NYT is JUST as biased.
The trick is to read BOTH sides. The truth is most often in the middle.
I really don’t have time to educate you on basic psychology and child development.
if someone had told me I was gay as a child for 10 years straight there is a good chance I would be gay. Thankfully my parents and teachers were not perverts trying to force their political and social views down my throat.
You are an idiot if you don’t think kids are impressionable. Telling them daily that if you call yourself gay or trans is special and desirable will make the child want to be special and desirable.
Well then it's a good thing the imaginary scenario you invented doesn't happen. We tell our young impressionable kids they are free to be themselves. They have a gay aunt and attended her gay wedding. They also live with two heterosexual parents and are surrounded by what is still a large majority heterosexual and cis society, so really if there is any pervasive influence it's to be straight and "normal".
I don't know who you think is pushing gayness on children. What a weird thing to think.
If it doesn’t happen then why was everyone so upset that Desantis banned such practices? If it isn’t happening then the law is just useless words right?
the truth is it is happening. You make my own point for me when you say your kid lives in a predominantly straight climate. If you woke up every morning and told your kid they are gay, there is a greater likelihood they will say they are gay. It’s very simple.
They're also pro-gay marriage, pro- abortion choice, want legalization of drugs, less restrictive borders and abolition of capital punishment. This you?
This is why you shouldn't align yourself with one political party - I consider myself "libertarian" on most positions and absolutely don't support policies that allow for child sex-change procedures. Anyone who thinks it's a good idea to start removing organs, and pumping children full of hormones and puberty blockers because they say they feel like they're the wrong sex should be charged with child abuse. The fact is there is no valid, objective protocol for diagnosing TRUE, organic, medically-based gender dysphoria, and differentiating it from gender dysphoria caused by social influences or trauma. Until that happens, nobody should be operating on children.
It's sad to see the left use children as pawns in some weird social/cultural/political battles going on in society.
I agree you shouldn't always align yourself with one party but usually people have a guiding set of principals or theories that informs their opinions and leads to a consensus.
That was until the rise of social media and we have a whole generation of 'Internet Libertarians' who haven't thought too hard about politics and have been convinced opposing abortion, restricting immigration and supporting the police, is somehow compatible with libertarianism.
Not sure where this falls, its not lib or cons. Not debating the trans thing. Looking at a friend's family. 1 mother (dec) had 5 daughters (all now passed). All 5 were married and had kids (now 40-50s). Here's how they turned out:
You dismiss Maher for his crack about having once wanted to be a pirate, but that doesn't discredit his point: identity exploration is a normal part of childhood and adolescence. The argument that children know that they're trans is completely out of step with knowledge about child development. Imagine somebody locking you into a childhood identification for the rest of your life. Historically, most children with gender identity issues were found to outgrow the conviction that they were born the wrong sex; many went on to identify as gay or lesbian. Treating this early cross-sex identificaiton as a fixed trait rather than a child's way of making sense of their own gender nonconformity and nascent homosexuality amounts to "transing the gay away." This is medical experimentation on would-be gay kids, kids with mental health problems, trauma survivors, and females who are dealing with normal pubertal discomfort.
So where is the peer reviewed research to back up this claim that most children with gender dysphoria grow out of it?
Dr Bakker says, “Although more research is needed, we now have evidence that sexual differentiation of the brain differs in young people with GD, as they show functional brain characteristics that are typical of their desired gender.”

"Woman of the year" is not a real thing. There is nothing legal or financial associated with it. It impacts nobody, maybe it makes a couple people feel better or worse about themselves. That's what I mean by it's a distraction.
The debt IS a real thing and it has nothing to do with identity politics. Do you see what I'm saying here?

I didn't make your own point. I'm a libby liberal who thinks everyone should be free to be their authentic selves. I think the growing percentage of LGBTQ-ness is due to people finally being allowed to come out of the closet. I live in a really liberal city where alternate lifestyles are widely accepting.
And yet I'm not pushing my kids to be gay. If anyone fits the mold it would me and people like me and it's still not happening.
Yes, if you woke up every morning and told your kid they are gay, they would be more likely to be gay. Agreed. And no one is doing this so we can stop with the fairy tales.
