I thought Murphy had turned a corner, this is another abysmal time for a top level type... Hoppel only 1:46.33, and Brazier up the Track last week, over 1:50.00
Two HS'ers may be able to run faster than this..I get it, different comp, conditions etc. but still.
A 20 yr old Brit opened up the season almost half a second faster than Murphy. Yeah, US is not getting a guy in the finals this year. Is Flatt going to be the fastest 800 guy in the US this season?
If only Coevett would put his money where his mouth is.
Watch out for Jonathan Jones from Texas. Dude has run 1:45.8 and 44.4 this year, and if he focuses on the 800 at USA's (which he certainly might not), he's a sleeper pick of mine to make and maybe mix it up in the final.
I feel like Murphy always has some shaky early season races but always peaks well for USA's. Great run in Puerto Rico but a rough one in Birmingham today. Sadly since 2016 he's struggled in major finals so I hope he can peak better for Worlds this time. No clue where Brazier is really at right now and Jewett has looked pretty rough so far. Harris is coming back from that hammy injury so we'll see how he progresses.
I predict Flatt goes under 1:46 this season but he's not gonna be a factor at USAs...does he even have the standard?
I will double down on my statement making the thread. Hoppel only .2 off Cade Flatt’s time yesterday and Murphy nowhere to be found. Not looking great for worlds this year
And I will double down on saying you are an idiot if you think Flatt is our 2nd best 800m runner.
