Not a good showing tonight from the US men in the 800 meter. Winning times 1:47 all around - a high schooler would’ve beat most if he was in the fast heat probably. Brazier doesn’t look great right now. Not looking great for worlds!
A 20 yr old Brit opened up the season almost half a second faster than Murphy. Yeah, US is not getting a guy in the finals this year. Is Flatt going to be the fastest 800 guy in the US this season?
I don’t think Murphy will ever break 1:43 again. It’s been almost 6 years since he ran his 1:42.93 PB. I hope I’m wrong.
6 months ago I would have thought Jewett and/or Brandon Miller might be the future of U.S. 800 running, but neither (especially Jewett) has looked as good as I would have hoped.
Shane Streich looked like he was breaking through indoors, but hasn’t run nearly as well this outdoor season.
There’s definitely still hope for the 24 year old Bryce Hoppel, but he hasn’t exactly made good on his promise from 2019-2020.
Brazier I still have high hopes for, especially considering that 1:13.97i 600 he ran this year. Hopefully his season opener in Doha was an anomaly (already it was an anomaly in that it was the slowest DL 800 ever run).
Brazier's got til World champs to build up to a peak and he doesn’t have to qualify. Im not worried about him yet. I think he just hadn't run an 800 in awhile and that slow weird race threw him off. Hopefully he's ok in July.
The men's 800 is the most open event in T&F right now. There's no extraordinary talent, which could put up to a dozen guys in the frame for gold. It's not just the US, it's right across the event
He was running much worse last year than he is now, and he pulled off a 1:43. I’m gonna say it, 1:42.9 for Murphy this year, and a medal.
I think Jewitt still has a shot at showing up and doing something too. I think he’s the future of the US 800m.
I believe in Brazier, there may not be a logical reason to do so right now, but I’m a big Brazier fan and really want to see him make a comeback.

Agree. Murphy will win some races but he won't see 1:42 again. Weight lifting has been proven to slow runners down.

Yep, and Max Burgin - who turns 20 today - will open his season tomorrow.

It’s one race, bro. Relax. Hs’ers are peaking right now. Pros are dusting the rust off. What loser aspect of your life can we expose here?
