It is what I expected, coach is cool with it and it's just the move that makes sense with Noble being in his prime and ready to see what he can do at the pro level. I'm happy to see New Balance Boston pick up a male runner, but kinda wish they pursued Nuguse instead. Maybe that is to come. Certainly, Coogan can coach and I'd like to see him get a guy who can run contend with the Hockers and Teares instead of Jerry/Pete.
Did the fiance approve?
When Tyson Gay and Wallace Spearmon were Seniors, shoe companies were trying to sign them early and have them not run nationals. Coach Mac told the shoe companies hands off until after NCAAs. stay away in no uncertain terms.
One company tried anyway. One of the athletes told Coach Mac that a representative was so pushy that he was actually coming over to his apartment that night.
When the rep knocked on the door it was coach Mac who answered it.
Why Christian Noble 25? Is he graduating this year? Natalie Cook would have to go on a gap year or do a mission to turn 25 in college.
I wish I had taken a gap year in college. Finishing school at 21 and getting a real job now seems premature for a 21-yr-old. No wonder I couldn't get to work on time.
New Balance puts an offer on the table and says it's good for 48 hours. Take it or leave it.
Agreed

Sir this is a Wendys
This is so silly. Carl Lewis's parents were offered a shoe store and other inducements by college coaches in the early 80s. SMU football paid all of their players throughout the 80s. Colorado's football coach was fired for paying recruits in 1962!
The idea that some great athletes would like to be paid for their greatness is not new at all. It's just much more above board and in the open now. I'm sorry if that damages your view of "society."
Think of all the temporary tattoos he can afford now!
Oh you mean "leaked" on these boards.
Merber, like an actual journalist waited until the announcement was official. Clearly had an inside as he had an interview in the Lap Count.
But then again, this site was never about real journalism lol.
That’s already happening. Plenty of players that have been first round locks have called it quits at the first small injury. Can’t say I blame them. It definitely sucks tho. Wonder if/how nil might change that.
If you read Merber's interview with him, he's going pro because he wants to run at the Pre International 1500m and nab a qualifier. It's on the same day as D2 Nationals, and he seems content with what he's accomplished in the D2 world and wants to test himself against the best. This was never about the greedy or impatient shoe company, or even about the risk of finishing the D2 season. Purely about capitalizing on this window where he's fit.
With the new NIL rules, why would a runner be faced with needing to decide between turning pro and staying in school? Why couldn't a shoe company do a NIL deal with a college runner that would let him/her get money and run out their eligibility?
^^^^This^^^^^
Because the companies wont give a college deal. Once you leave the NCAA the deal is void. This makes companies say why bother. And the deal can only be the shoe company that sponsors your college team.
No runners will get shoe contract NIL deals
He ran 3:36/13:24 D2 records. What was second best this year?
Though he's old, he's had limited competition and training partners, so I would think that not only will he go faster this season because of peaking, he'll go faster because of competition and better training partners if he gets them this year--or next year. He's still got some room to grow and run 3:33-34 this year and maybe 3:32 next year.

Training partners, that’s funny. He is going to be a workout pacer for Ellie and Heather just like Drew Piazza. Remember when Drew could run? Not going so well with NB for him.
Not a good move
