Not a bad race. Just a race run on tired legs. She ran like she had just run one of the fastest 1500s in NCAA history two hours earlier. I never saw the point of having her double but on the other hand she got to shake out another 5000 before regionals.
She's highly underrated and keeps improving. Her 8:54 3k (same PR as Touhy) and 6th in the indoor 3k doubling back from the DMR were overlooked. Also has a 2:04 800m PR so better speed than most her 15/5k competitors. She hasn't done an agressive, all out 1500m or 5k all season like Touhy so her PR's may be misleading (4:13/15:45), but even if the pace is fast at Natty's I wouldn't count her out. She just has to be in it with a lap to go.
A lot posting on here earlier were referencing Touhy not winning the 5k cause she was tired from the 1500m, which I'm sure she was tired, but Bush had the 800m just under an hour ealier and put 4 seconds on Touhy in the last 300m alone. She's legit.
She is a good runner with a good kick, but I don't know if I would go as far as to call her a title contender. I haven't seen anything to suggest that she could run a 4:06 1500 or a 15:14 5000. She had a great kick in a flat race, but 15:46 is unlikely to win an NCAA title. That is just my opinion.

She made that 4:11 split at Penn relays look very easy.
She is a very good NCAA runner and has already been a XC AA and a first team AA in the 3000. I think she is a contender in the 3000. But you have to hit certain benchmarks to have a legitimate shot at winning. Fact is she still has not run under 4:10 in the 1500 even accounting for the Penn Relays split. And her lifetime PR in the 5000m is 15:45. Nor was yesterday's 5000m a tactical race. It was just a slow race. Good job doubling back from a disappointing 800m, but I would venture to say that a runner who was already able to run 15:30 in a super tactical 5000 NCAA final and has run 15:14 this season solo was clearly feeling the affects of her earlier race in running 15:50. As I was saying all week the 1500 figured to be a fast race and I didn't think having Tuohy double off it was necessary. The 1500 is a distance race. And that is doubly true in what turned out to be historically fast. A college runner is not going 4:06 then bouncing back two hours later. We saw what Tuohy can do with fresh legs in the indoor championships. But at least she was not the only contender doubling. Roe, Chelengat, Nichols, Gregory, etc all doubled also. Guess it is the standard practice in outdoor. No harm no foul.
If Bush can run in the 15:30s she has a good shot to AA in the 5000m, especially with runners feeling the affects of a long season.

This is what I meant when I said I didn't see Bush as a title contender. If the 5000 runs that slowly and she is in it with a lap to go, maybe, but I doubt Touhy will make that same mistake twice. I was not trying to take away from Bush's accomplishments, but based on her times I don't see her winning a title this year. If she did, I would be very happy for her but also incredibly surprised.
There is going to be stiff competition for both the 1500 and the 5000 at NCAA's. There were some impressive performances posted in other conference meets this weekend. Mercy Chelangat ran really well this weekend with 10K (33:15.66) and 5K (15:22.99) double victories. She got out kicked twice by Touhy at indoors, and has her own score to settle.
NC State Sophomore Katelyn Tuohy takes the race from the start to finish, splits 48 67 66 63 to win the ACC 1500m title!! A 6-second PR! Katelyn doubled back...
DiGenero 59.5 to win Pac-12 1500 in 4:13.26 - the type of race Tuohy would likely lose.
I might be missing something but how is a 1500m time that is 6 seconds slower an indication she would lose? I understand DiGenero had a powerful kick but I imagine head-to-head, Tuohy would have begun the last lap quite far ahead.
sitting and kicking never really was katelyn's strength, she has always been a start fast stay fast end fast runner
its just a matter of fitness level, for her to be able to do it to the top ncaa runners because katelyn is so so good at hanging on a very fast pace, not all can do that .. katelyn got that // built that in years of years of running long miles
I think when it is all said and done KT's kick is going to surprise people. People forgot how much raw speed she has. It is just not yet on the level of the covid red shirt seniors in a sit and kick style race, but on the other hand none of the remaining NCAA runners have shown the ability to run below 4:09 with the exception of Heymach. Hurta, Meyer and Camp were better than anyone KT would have to face this year.
It assumes that it is a sit and kick style race. Anyone who tries that with Digenero after the mile indoor deserves to lose. Run really fast from the gun and see if she can keep up.
FT implied that no one pushed the early pace, so it ended up jog to the bell and then a 400, which Degenero won in 59.5. (If Tuohy was in that group and closed in 61, well she doesn't win.)
Obviously, Tuohy can and often does push the pace, but if the kickers (Heymach, Degenero, Vissa) can hang on til last 200 they still can win.
At 5k Tuohy can close from 1600 out, so has a better chance vs the fewer kickers.

correct, and if you saw the box she was in in the ACC 1500 heat you would see why I have a concern there.
