Depends? Are you a chick? If so, do you have decent tits? Older women turn me on. Otherwise, no. I'm not impressed.

I am.
jess koski rolled 2:50 at 50 at grandmas this year, i believe.
What kind of attention do you want? Adoration from letsrun posters? Write-up in the local paper? Appearance on Letterman? IMHO, 2:50 is an excellent time for someone at age 50. Qucik check of '05 Boston and New york says a 2:50 would put you in the top 2 or 3 in your age group. I think that's pretty strong.
Like most running accomplishments it would (or should) get you much props from the running crowd. But nothing from anyone else. That is very impressive to me.
As someone in that age group, it gets attention, but mostly from your peers. We know what it takes to get in that range at that age. At this age,as you probably know, the satisfaction is in the accomplishment of your goal.
I haven't checked the results from those 3 races, but I would imagine a high 2:4? would put you well up in the overall results.
Good luck!
Uhh, just asking. Not looking for props from the board. 2;50 at that age seems pretty fast but just wondering what others think.
i think it's an easy course. and Rocket City, which i'm doing next week, looks pretty gentle... now Atlanta is pretty hilly
but to answer your question, yeah, 2:50 at 50 gets respect from the running cognoscenti, and wins the age group, usually, at the races you mentioned - easily at Atlanta the last 2 years. although, at last year's Rocket City 2:47 won the 50-54
2:50 at 50 puts you in the age-group top 5 at Boston or Chicago too
Rocket City is fast on a good day, the two times i have done it (3;19,2;53) it was windy and cold. I hope you have a good weather day, you can PR there if you are on.
thanks for the good weather wishes - long term forecast looks good. cold, i can handle, i just hope it isn't too windy! got blown away at Richmond last year
it will be interesting to see what Benji Durden runs, the race entrant list shows he's 54
Very Respectable.... Your not going to find many runners 50 and over who can run 2:50 much less sub 3:00.
according to age grading tables a 2:50 at 50 is equivalent to 2:36 for a runner in his twenties
there is something about the way rocket city is laid out that makes windy weather hard there. I guess there is not much tree cover or bldgs to break it up plus it's flat.
2;36 equiv is how it feels to run ~2;50 at this age.
Consider this: a friend of mine gets a little stipend from Saucony for running trail races and ultras. He IS 70+ years old, however using his example {he regularly sends newspaper articles and results from the race directors to Saucony, who sponsors him}, you could always contact a shoe company and see if you could get free shoes or a singlet/shorts, warmups, or travel expenses or suchlike by asking.
It's a slim shot but hey why not. If you could run a 2:50 at SIXTY years old, hey now.
A Jew broke 2:20 and he's in his fifties. There's nothing to it, just run and your sure to be under 2:50.
I have had sponsorship from local running shoe stores and had PowerBar sponsorship (product) when I was doing triathlon. it is kind of a hassle to maintain and I can handle the cost of running shoes and gear. plus nothing against Saucony but they have never been my favorite. now if Adi would talk to me then OK.
At Boston In 2004 77 men who were in the 50-59 age group broke 3:00 hours. Nine of these men were under 2:50, some in the 2:30s. In addition, four more ran 2:50:xx. So it is a good feat to run 2:50 at age fifty, but not earth shattering.
looks to me like 2:51 won the division

in '04 it was in the 80's - i really doubt 9 guys over 50 went sub-2:50
if you've got different data - lets see it
easy to get Boston results
