Anyone know what he's up to? Is he still at Colorado? Is he injured? Has he competed for the school at all? Just curious.

Preparing for final exams, I bet. You can find the answer to your last question on the CU athletic department site.
Rumors are flying that he is gonna transfer to U of Florida.
pretty much what everyone expected -- he has had a hard time improving because he was running high mileage before he showed up. even wetmore says there's very little he can do to improve a guy in that situation. exactly why you'll always see CU go after guys who are relatively undertrained in high school -- much higher ceiling of improvement.
I saw a pic of him finishing at Nats...he dyed his hair blond and is still about 5'3".
Where'd you see this?

Haha, pretty sure that was Billy Nelson.

Wetmore's a big Lydiard supporter. Lydiard said you need years of high mileage to reach your potential. So it doesn't make sense if Wetmore said he can't improve a guy who's previously run 1-4 years of high mileage.

"It can take many years to gradually and continually develop cardiac efficiency.....This is the reason why marathoners usually better performers at ages nearer 40 rather than in their earlier years; that is if they continue systematic long aerobic training."
That doesn't mean you can't burn out from doing too much too soon.
I think that it has more to do with egos and fitting in than anything else.

Probably. I'll never forget the CU gang sign he threw up though.

Regarding "too much".....Lydiard (in my previous link above) endorsed as much aerobic training the athlete can possibly do. It would then be hypocritical for Lydiard-driven Wetmore to look negatively at Deak's mileage.
Regarding "too soon".....Deak started when he was 9 years old. Even though years are needed, you may have a point there.
i don't think wetmore would look negatively at deak's mileage from an overall running perspective -- simply from a recruiting perspective. i mean, let's say that wetmore is looking at having a kid for 5 years in the program. someone who has run lower mileage to that point is going to have greater gains, a sharper improvement curve, and a higher ceiling than someone who has been at high mileage for years. there's no way wetmore would say that someone can only run high mileage for a few years -- that wasn't the point i was trying to make. simply from a practical standpoint, he's going to take a kid with comparable times in a low mileage background everytime.

I think that's a significant symptom of a problematic mindset. Notice how you'll never see another CU runner, past or present, pulling such showboating, boastful bullcrap. He had such a hard-on for CU before he got there or even signed a letter of intent (he started waffling aka grandstanding late in the process) when all he really knew was what any other trolling basher on this site does, what he read and yanked-off to in Running With the Buffs. From all appearances, he was the ultimate jock-sniffer, all caught up in the image and style and not going in with an open mind and prepared to handle a situation and workload that was significantly different from what he had imagined and bought into. All he seemingly was interested in was being issued a jersey and relegated anything else (the process) an after-thought. Wetmore clearly prefers humble and hungry runners, good students who keep their mouths shut and heads down and are ready to do what's expected of them, not starry-eyed prima donnas.
Sounds like somebody didn't get to run for his dream school, CU...? Am I right> I'm right.
Hardly. CU never even made my radar screen until after I was done with college running. I was most pleased with my college choice and experience, and I really wasn't sure where I'd go until I made my visit there. Where'd you get that idiotic stuff from, anyway? What have you been overdosing on recently, other than tryptophan?

Canova could have Deak in the 12's in 3 months!!!
Yah, that is true. I heard it from one of his teammates.

Is that the best comeback you can think of, you are a sorry excuse for a runner, and an even more pathetic person. You are obviously bitter about your college running experience, or lack of. THink of something somewhat coherent to say and come back, until then, f*** off.
