Even in an athletic context, commenting on bodies is still objectification. It doesn't have much of any bearing on just how prepared they are to perform from their training and psychological state. But most commentators are vapid and feel compelled to fill empty air with the same old useless filler that's been trotted out for years.
When are people going to stop attacking free speech?
Hannibal Lecter : No. We begin by coveting what we see every day. Don't you feel eyes moving over your body, Clarice? And don't your eyes seek out the things you want?
When they stop showing their bodies to us! Don't expect us to stop being superficial and overreaching on a dime, it's really hard to not really notice and scrutinize women's bodies in any context. We're perfectly happy to offer up a rating on a 10 scale of the looks of any woman in any profession, not just limited to models and strippers and porn stars. There's a LOT at stake here.
Big tennis fan here. Look at what the female players are wearing vs what the men wear. They absolutely ARE advertising their bodies to us. And I like it. They wanna show it, I'll take a look.
Is that sarcasm? Colin Cowheard is one of the most listened to sportscasters in America and he routinely contrasts Rothlisberger’s off season habits and subsequently less-than-trim physique to the robotic Tom Brady. His language is not delicate.

No, it's a rhetorical question. It would be sarcasm if I wrote:
People didn't comment on or make fun of Rothlisberger for being a fatty QB:
I thought this article would go over well on LRC, titled "When Will We Finally Stop Commenting on Women Athlete’s Bodies?"
I don't agree with the article, if you are a female athlete, you are advertising your body to the world when you participate in sport and body composition is a fundamental attribute of performance.
What a stupid comment. Women athletes aren't advertising their bodies by participating in sports, you moron. You know that women have to exist, right? Are they advertising their bodies just by walking around? F off.

We will stop commenting on women's bodies when: 1) the old adage of ‘sex sells’ is no longer true. 2) men stop being interested in women. 3) women are no longer interested in attracting men or 4) men are no longer men, and women are no longer women…they just become a plain old human organism….oh wait, ‘they’ are creating quite a movement to do away with anything gender related already, so maybe the answer is simply, now.
Respectfully, a human runner….oh wait, thats offensive to non-runners.
Respectfully, a human in motion….oh wait…my dog has emotions and might be offended.
