This question is one of the most racist, ignorant threads to grace the LRC boards. And let's be honest, we've seen some petty sh!t here.
The mods need to delete this now. How can someone, even in a joking manner, go as far as to criticize what Zelensky is wearing when addressing congress right now? This guy has bigger things to worry about than what to wear - he's currently an everyday hero for standing up for his country while bombs are going off around him. Suggesting otherwise is absolutely shameful right now. SMH. Delete this thread and all the ignorance it stands for.
Probably mostly WHITE, western runners (myself included) are having a fairly dumb discussion about how well-dressed a WHITE, western (more-or-less) foreign leader should be during a war, and you decide that the word "racist" is in play? Holy cow.
this 1000% - their butthurtness hit a new high today. It was so unbearable for a certain special individual that even the putin lovers thread was shut down.
This is so petty and pathetic. I’m surprised you weren’t fragged by your unit.
Yes, one could argue that your first sentence is defensible. There are lots of different ways to skin a cat. On the one hand, a military could say that it matters not a wit what we look like when bullets are flying. Yep. Look at images of WWII or Vietnam. And one could also argue that it's admirable, or similar sentiments, to still look fairly "sharp" even when there are, admittedly, much more important things to worry about. I see the latter, but find the former much more refreshing (i.e., worry about the important stuff, not the PR photos). I a particularly love the photos of FADM Nimitz and other senior officers in WWII absolutely looking like they just rolled out of bed in their cotton khakis.
But your second sentence, even "kiddingly," is nearly infinitely worse. And while I don't know your background, it whiffs of the unfortunately common, knuckle-dragging, bitter enlisted view that we should make "fragging" jokes about any officer with whom we disagree. Disgusting. And yeah, I'm a retired officer.
Zelensky could wear a suit. And one could say, "Gee, that's some discipline, even in a very difficult situation" (the view of most militaries). Or, he could wear a t-shirt, which he's obviously doing, and one could say, "Totally understandable. His country is in mortal danger. Who gives a crap what he's wearing?"
We can see both sides without calling each other DBs. But yeah, Americans....humans.
If the OP and you represent the officer corps, that’s truly sad. His post and your weak reply are equally pathetic.
The OP is just parroting a Peter Schiff tweet from earlier this morning. I will respond by stating that this is typical conservative Boomer horseshat - attack the packaging but ignore the substance.
I have far more respect for Zelensky's optics, wartime leader, staying in the capital, dressing like those that are defending the country, as opposed to Putin being in a suit and tie but seemingly afraid to allow his top generals/cabinet members to sit within 20 feet of him.
uh.....remember when trump was attacked for wearing ugly suits, silk ties, having weird hair etc.
mitt romney was wearing mom jeans, he's too "put together" and out of touch in his appearance
dont act like liberals do not do this
Lol. One man is leading his country through war, the other was tweeting while on the toilet.
Read a book if you can’t differentiate these scenarios and responses to them 😂

What is wrong with the OP? Is he down deep hidden in the recesses of his psyche really a comrade? A Putin lover? Zelensky is fighting for his country and his own life. And the OP is concerned that he is not wearing a suit? Really?
Actually Zelensky is not only a brave and heroic leader for his country who hasn't coward in the face of the "great" Russian military but remember he has a showbiz background. He knows what will resonant and move people. Dressing in military green has a much stronger effect on people and does a better job of communicating his his dire position. Clean shaven with a nice suit wouldn't be as effective. He is the smart guy (not Putin who is destroying his country).

One man didn't have his country prepared and is now begging the world for help. Great job! What a leader!
Really you believe the man who is leading his country to effectively fight off the Russians even though his country is severely out numbered and our gunned is a poor leader?

The poor leader quite clearly is Putin.
Zelensky is smart and media savvy.
One dude had his country unprepared is being attacked, is begging for help and is slowly losing as the other country puts the slow squeeze on them.
To understand nothing about the situation is one thing, to pretend that you understand everything and condensed the lead of a nation underside is about as entitled as you can get.
Yikes - your ignorance is showing. I'm sorry that you don't understand. 'Racism' is about more than just the color of your skin. Just because you're 'white' doesn't mean racism can't be present as a result of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Also - the bigger issue her is why people are choosing to make a big deal out of this instead of having sympathy and empathy for the people of Ukraine. Choosing to get 'offended' by the use of the word 'racism' rather than understanding my larger message also shows your insecurities.
