Last Monday night, I suddenly came down with the flu. Three days of shaking, sweating profusely in bed with a high fever. Then a day of violent diarrhea. And then several days lingering cough/runny nose/sore throat which makes sleeping difficult. I've been fatigued this whole time, and 9 days later still feel only 90% recovered. I lost 3lbs because I had almost no appetite those first few days.
COVID felt like a tiny 2-3 day cold. It barely affected my running. The flu is making me lose gains and is dragging on. Yet I always remembered the flu being a part of "normal life".
Also I never remember the flu being this bad. My guess is all the masking ,sanitation, isolation, lockdowns, and general hypochondria over the past 2+ years has weakened everyone's immune systems. The 'real' illnesses are about to begin IMO. There are 4-year-olds who literally haven't left homes in the past two years, I worry what's going to happen when the start entering schools. The immune system needs regular training.
