Just a few months ago Korea had less than 50 covid cases a day. Now it is over 150,000. Logic says vaccines are no longer working. Why are we still pushing and spending except to make big pharma a cronies rich and us poorer?
Same thing is happening or occurred in Hong Kong, Singapore, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Gibraltar, Denmark, New Zealand, etc. (and probably China as well, they are just covering the data). The vaccines do not prevent Omicron, only lessen the impact. Since a number of those countries never had big outbreaks in the past, the amount of natural immunity in the population is low, so the unvaxxed will have a bigger impact on the hospitals than they had here during the Omicron wave (because most of the unvaxxed here likely had a previous infection in the past two years). The state department has already issued red or orange travel advisories for many of those countries. It will eventually hit everywhere unless they rush through a Omicron specific vaccine without running it through the typical testing protocols.
Another thread that pretends the reams of data showing outstanding vaccine efficacy, even against Omicron, don't exist.
How long will antivaxxers Stay Big Mad that vaccines work? Will they continue to tie their personalities to the desire that more people die of COVID and that the pandemic never end?
A test-negative case–control analysis using data from a diverse population in California, USA, demonstrates that vaccine efficacy of a three-dose regimen of the mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine is reduced against infection with the...
The 3-dose VE against hospitalization with Delta or Omicron was >99% across the entire study population. Our findings demonstrate high, durable 3-dose VE against Delta infection but lower effectiveness against Omicron infection, particularly among immunocompromised people. However, 3-dose VE of mRNA-1273 was high against hospitalization with Delta and Omicron variants.
Vaccines still provided their greatest protection against death: At the end of December, unvaccinated people were 10 times as likely to die as the vaccinated.
And yet its death rate from covid is 19x less than America's. The differential is even more magnified from when vaccines became widely available.
Also worthy to note that 56 percent of deaths from the recent surge have been in unvaccinated or 1-dose people. This in a country where +86% are fully vaccinated, and +60% boosted.
No one is claiming vaccines provide strong protection against infection anymore; Omicron changed that and no one who is engaged in good faith debate about the usefulness of vaccines is focusing on that.
Bizarre case study to focus on if your goal is to make vaccines look ineffective. Antivaxxers are so desperate.

Explosive growth? I wonder why? (rhetorical question)
The US peaked at ~40 hospitalizations /100k in the Omicron wave (a large majority unvaxxed).
South Korea averaged 3/100k for the last week.
Similarly, South Korea is averaging about 8 times LESS deaths /100k than the US despite the US being past the peak of it's Omicron wave.
Turns out that low antivaxxers and good mitigation efforts work.
Excellent evidence to support the effectiveness of vaccines. Nice thread!
Harambe, always full of it. What do you mean South Korea is past the peak? Their cases increased 85% this week and have not declined at all. They are on the leading edge of their surge, which distorts the ratio between cases and hospitalizations, as hospitalizations lag cases (hospitalizations by 10 days to two weeks) and deaths a little beyond that. In the US, 7-day average cases peaked Jan. 14, deaths peaked Feb. 1.
At least make an attempt to be truthful. Posts like the one above just reinforce your bias.
