Yakob will probably run a 3:30. Everyone should ask themselves, why should anyone be excited about a 3:30? That's mediocre. That's borderline G League.
"Oh but it's indoors-" And? Indoor performances arent slower because the environment inhibits athletes, it's slower mostly for lack of effort so I refuse to accept the lowered standards for indoor performances. If Yakob shows up and runs a 3:30.5 how is that any more impressive than the 3:28 hes run in the past? It's not, and his 3:28 isnt that impressive to begin with, so...
Someone just posted on another thread that nobody worth their salt runs 3:30 outdoors during indoor season. So, a 3:30 indoors is a helluve sweet ride and most people, including me and presumably excluding you, will be thrilled with seeing a good time posted on the board.
Well, yeah, cause nobody TRIES to run fast during indoor season. It's not in their interest to produce high quality performances at that point in the year.
But dont let lack of effort on the part of athletes skew your perception of what is impressive.
The preview article says the pace is 2:21 for first km (3:31.5 pace), so I would be surprised if he was sub 3:29. In fact I think he ends up at 3:30.34. That's my guess.

Oh come on, Hocker is G-league, so clearly YJakob and 3:30 isnt that. You can rag all you want on him but he isn't G-league at all.
Hocker is G League, yes, and so is this indoor record. Yakob is not G League which is why I think he can break the indoor record. But my point is that breaking a G League record is not cause for celebration. Yakob should try and break a big boy record.

Fair enough.
I dont think its a reason to bring out the champagne for Jacob, but I think breaking senior records means a lot for him. He might over the years bring the inside record down to something that is not G league. I think he is trying to break the big boy records as well.
But I will not go overboard as many other did on that other meet. His success today mostly shows that he cared enough to make it a priority. We will know when the outdoor season start what shape he is in, main goal would be to win a championship goal, maybe not records before that (not saying that its possible for him).

People have had impetus to run fast during indoors, namely world record bonus as well as sponsor bonuses for said WRs.
Most people save one or two or three haven't been able to maintain this type of form from indoors to outdoors with either national, european, world or olympic championships sandwiched betwen early indoors and the Diamond League/Golden League/Grand Prix finals.
Seems you're being deliberately daft, and that's unfortunate.
I can be impressed with a 3:30 because the man who ran the 3:30 ran it exactly as he planned. That he improved over last year gives several posters, myself included, good reason to believe that Jakob's training is spot on for another solid season of successful results and places. If he can avoid the sickness which derailed him for part of last year, he'll be on track for his best performance season ever. And, that started with a 3:30. A race he won money to win if he could run faster than anyone else ever had.
That you're not impressed doesn't concern anyone but yourself. Jakob couldn't care less what you think. Frankly, most people here don't seem to agree with what you think, either.
