The US State of the Union Address has been delayed until March 1, 2022. The delay is unprecedented in US politics. It has never been given as late as March. It was delayed so Biden could do some damage control on his reactions to the pandemic and come out with new messaging.
We still hear a lot of hand-wringing reports on the media, but the data itself on covid has turned very positive.
- Omicron is far less dangerous than Alpha/Delta, but it is far more infectious.
- Omicron cases are down 95% from its peak in NYC, the first place hit hard by Omicron.
- Nationwide, cases are down about 70% from the January peak.
- We've seen a dramatic shift in messaging from the US government and the CDC in the past month or so.
- Basically, between the 80% of age 5 and up who are vaccinated and Omicron sweeping through the country. We're rapidly reaching herd immunity, but no one is saying that yet because they don't want to derail the vaccination push, but the reality is that almost everyone who is going to get it has already gotten it!
The CDC Covid tracker shows only 100k/day are getting the 1st vaccination and half of those are age 5-11. Booster rates are plummeting from over a million/day to only 130k/day yesterday.
The politicians will lead from the rear. They'll follow the trends and declare victory. Some of their puppets are already saying this. I heard it last night. It's a test to see how the public will react to a similar message from the top.
So to answer your question, Biden will declare the pandemic to be over on March 1... and probably in the same sentence say, "but we still need to be vigilant. We need to... blah, blah, blah."
It's what politicians do.
Of course, he will probably do it in politician-speak while simultaneously urging people to get vaccinated and get their five-year-olds vaccinated, but unless there is a dramatic turn of events, it will happen to some degree.
