Same here. I ran 4:13 on 25MPW in HS but only ran 4:09 in college on 60MPW.
For both you and the other poster I am positive there is far more to the story, as neither of you were fully developed aerobically in HS.
No runner would not improve by a smart, slow build to 60 from 25.
I am guessing you were either
a) Not recovering (partying, sleeping, eating poorly, etc)
b) Not wearing the right shoes
c) Not running the proper paces
d) Had mental or other issues
e) Crosstraining an additional 5-10 hrs/week in HS outside of running (maybe another sport?)
I reckon you were a sub-4 miler with the right college program.
