JAy birmingham, the second person to run across death valley did it in pretty fast time in the early 80s, maybe late 70s. He did about 50 miles a day and carried a backpack.

Bought shoes from him a couple years ago. He was, philosophically, the anti-trackhead - put me in Saucony Grid Web 3D, aided and abetted in their brickdom by Superfeet inserts. I was just starting running (as an adult) and soon developed more minimal tastes.
So he was doing basically 350 mile weeks. i wonder how many lets run posters have done a 350 mile week, probably more than a few.
Rexing does 350 when he is tapering.
