What kind of workouts and runs do you do when you run 70-80miles a week? Do you run twice a day or once?
for ultras:
run long (12-16) just about every day
run real long on Sundays
typical week 80-90 miles
peak week 130+ miles
all on singles
for shorter races
two track workouts/week
one short and hard intervals (200m to600m)
one long intervals (800m to 2000m)
sunday long run 20-25 miles (just about every sunday)
other days 8-12 miles with one or two as tempo or fartled runs
mostly singles but on track days sometimes i throw in a second short recovery type workout
typical week 70-80 miles
peak week about 100 miles
Twice on easy days, if schedule allows. 6 am + 4 pm is better recovery than one 1-hour run.
I've also tried to add an easy second run on hard days, but that's a different ballgame. No need for that until you hit 90+ mpw.
doing 6 and 4 rather than 9 (1 hr) is basically a junk mile, it might show up in your log but it's not doing ANYTHING for you
One a day for 70-80. One long run and a race recently. If I don't race than some type of workout replaces that. Occasionally I'll throw in a 2nd hard one of some type. This week which starts on Mon, 10.3 all 5 days will a tempo yesterday and I'll do 14 or so either tommorow or Sun. I'm not racing this weekend but have the last 3. I'm 46.
