I’ll go with 3 under 8:33
Their 4 guy is better on the track than xc though he ran like 4:08 as a sophmore, so who can really say.

I rescind that statement. Aaron salhamn ran 4:08, appleford ran 4:14.

In another thread someone claimed Brosnan has an ego. Anyone notice the I in that statement. Shouldn't he have said "There no reason all four of them can't break 8:30 this spring."
Petty hater. People are quick to try and discredit the guy but he is a huge reason why they are successful. He is going to have the guys shatter that record in Alabama whether you guys like it or not.
What's wrong with a confident coach?

They are talking about the 3200m and its quote, not the entire conversation. Stop getting crazy about how something was said.
Saying your guys are capable of something is a great thing. It's just cool Newbury Park is getting High School running so much attention.

The 3200 is a non event. They should aim for sub 8 3000 or sub 8:30 2 mile.
Lol.
last spring:
1,465 ran a 3000
40,000 ran a 3200
500 ran a 2 mile
Per athletic.net
There’s nothing wrong with a confident coach — there is definitely something wrong with a HS coach who puts himself front and center time and time again. Anyone who thinks “there’s no reason I can’t have 4 guys under 8:30” isn’t a weird quote is a dbag, end of story. He’s a good coach, but he’s also an egomaniac.
If he really is so truly great, why haven’t colleges poached him? Let’s see how he does once the Young’s and Sahlman are gone.
German Fernandez' state records for both 3200 and two miles is 8:34. That wold be a great benchmark for either distance.

Can't be soft. If I was an opposing runner or the 5th man on their team. I'd want to run harder lol.
Sidenote. I think their 5th man has to be the hungriest runner for success in all of highschool distance running right now lol

It's a false assumption that coaching college is a step up from coaching high school. High school coaching is a better gig in a number of ways.
My son's coaches at college earn
$250k head
$110k assistant XC/distance
My daughter's coaches at high school earn
$4000 head track
$2000 assistant for distance
$4000 head XC
$2000 assistant XC

well of course that is not what most college coaches make, but if you are good enough to coach in a power 5 or anything that pays similar, that is a better gig than high school. Lower end schools D1s, D2s, and D3s often not. Consider that a lot of high school coaches teach gym or something else and make over 100k per year.
But the point is that he us supposedly the best coach ever so why is unable to snag one of the dozens of distance jobs making $125k?
Serious question: do they have a JV team?? Does he actually coach them?
Also, what makes a coach GOOD? Is it the ability to win state championships with high end athletes, or to take your middle-tier runner and have that group running to their full potential? Ex: Getting a 20 min boy to run under 18
For D1, it is performance. And it looks like the top end colleges are not yet trusting that he capable of that.

As far as I know, one HSer in history has broken 8:30 for 2 miles -- Lukas V.
He thinks 4 kids on his team can run sub 8:30 for 3200 meters?
LV ran 14:06 indoor and 3:59 outdoor. Gotta believe NP's top-40 are 3:58-4:04 guys outdoor and likely 13:50-14:15 guys. That puts them in range to shoot for 8:30.
Why has nobody ever run a sub 8:30 2 mile in HS history other than LV?

It has to begin somewhere. Every course had its inception. This one is only about 3 years old and has already hosted an NCAA regional and the Runninglane national cross country meet. Nobody knows what will happen if NXN ever comes back but I predict that Runninglane will push Eastbay and NXN out. If that is the case, it is great that the fastest kids of all time are running on this course so that 10 years from now we can appreciate how fast these kids really are.
This!!!

Because it's a really fast time? LV could have run much faster in the 5000, probably close to 13:35. We'll see if any NP guy can run 3:58.
I am pretty sure it's just the video editing. They are running the same course, but they chose to show the 2 mile split like a minute after they actually crossed it.
Where can we find entries for this race? A lot of fast kids this year not being talked about because of these newberry kids. Rheinhardt harrison, gavin sherry, and josh edwards are just a few off the top of my head I can name who could be top in the US not running in Cali.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
