Jonathan Gault caught up with the Newbury Park coach this week.
On this week's race:
"And I'll say it: we're going to try to go 1-2-3-4 out there...."
On the track season.
"There’s no reason I can’t have four guys under 8:30 [for 3200]."

The 3200 is a non event. They should aim for sub 8 3000 or sub 8:30 2 mile.

Unfortunately it's what they run in California. Be cool if they attack sub-14 for the 5,000, sub 8 for the 3,000 and a sub-4 mile. If they're gonna go with around 3,200 distance I agree go for sub-8:30 at it. You'll want to neg-split anyway somewhat so go out in 4:16-17 for the mile and let's see if anyone can kick.
Sub 8 is way easier than sub 8:30.
8:30 for 3200m = 7:56 for 3k.
8:30 for full 2 miles = 7:52 for 3k.
So what he is claiming is bolder.
They are in HS in California so they will be running high school distances.

Of those 3 that you mentioned, a sub 8:30 would be far more impressive than each.
An 8:30 for 2 miles is equal to a 13:32 5000m according to IAAF scoring calculator.
As far as I know, one HSer in history has broken 8:30 for 2 miles -- Lukas V.
He thinks 4 kids on his team can run sub 8:30 for 3200 meters?
he also thinks he can have a team average 10 sec's off Ritz's record. If they can do that there is no reason to doubt it.

What the hell is Ritz's record? I almost took that out of JG's article. How in the world do we compare times across xc courses. It's like looking to see which course was mismeasured.
That's whY I wish they were at Foot Locker. At least we know what the times there mean.
Rojo, Wasn't Ritz 2000 record when it was in Orlando? so its irrelevant what NP would run at Balbaoa park
Is the Footlocker course really the same as it was in the 80's? Seems odd that all of the fastest times are from the first few years, and even the greats like Ches, Hunter, Verzbicas (he cruised his year tbf) couldnt come close to those times?
and his 1999 run at foot locker was also in Florida
Looking at video it's like the terrain changed
Riley Hough is my pick for individual champion, but Brosnan’s statement isn’t crazy considering three of those kids just ran so well at CIF.
That said, I know Sahlman and the Young twins basically ran at or around (either just faster in Sahlman’s case or just slower in Lex/Leo’s case) Nico’s best time at Woodward, but I don’t really think they are comparable — Nico ran his time @ Clovis mid year, over a month before his planned peak. He cruised CIF to ensure he was fresh for NXN. Colin, Lex and Leo ran CIF during their peak for the season.
It has to begin somewhere. Every course had its inception. This one is only about 3 years old and has already hosted an NCAA regional and the Runninglane national cross country meet. Nobody knows what will happen if NXN ever comes back but I predict that Runninglane will push Eastbay and NXN out. If that is the case, it is great that the fastest kids of all time are running on this course so that 10 years from now we can appreciate how fast these kids really are.

True. Might be sweet spot distance for a couple of these guys. Not as confident they have 1:49 or faster 800m speed, but they are all very strong.

A non event that almost the entire country including the most competitive state by far runs and has run since the 80s. Get with the program. How hard is it to use a calculator?

The record Brosnan is referring to is Ritz’s 14:10 at the Michigan state meet, which is the fastest 5K ever run in HS XC. Not the 14:29.
The RunningLane course is blazing fast so they definitely have a shot. Parker Wolfe ran 14:26 there last year. He was a hell of a runner, one of the best to ever come through Colorado. Ran 8:43 for 2 miles in the spring. But I certainly would think Sahlman and maybe the Young twins are superior to his 2020 form this year. I just don’t know if they are 16+ seconds superior.
Leo Daschbach and Cole Sprout also ran 14:14 and 14:16 at the Casa Tempe course in 2019.

To add to this, if they were running the mile you would still have to use a calculator to see how their times stack up against the rest of the world. And if they were running the 1500 then Americans would whine. There will always be little crappy-pants crybabies like you.

I'm not talking about comparing their times to Ritz's. I'm talking about comparing them to past FL champs in San Diego.

In another thread someone claimed Brosnan has an ego. Anyone notice the I in that statement. Shouldn't he have said "There no reason all four of them can't break 8:30 this spring."
