Did anybody get the final splits for Paul Terget and Hendrick Ramaala for the Mile,Half and last Quarter in yesterday's marathon. The finish looked more like a track event than a marathon? Was the last mile the fastest of the race.

best split was ramaala running a 4:21 when they started to go across the bridge and he opened the gap
fastest mile split in NYC marathon history
and meb covered the move
Actually the Italiano made this dumb move going UP the bridge and the whole pack easily covered it by midspan.
Ramalla and all of them then passed Di Cecco on the downhill where Ramalla laid down this equally dumb split.
Do you think Ramalla might have had more for the finish without that 4:21 mile?
Thanks. I saw the 4:21 but I was realy interested in the last mile. Could they have been close to 4:20?
possibly... is there a way to get the chip timers? I know they don't cover every mile but I bet someone timed it
yeah but Ramaala broke the race open with the 4:21... and he kept surging after that although Tergat slowly caught up, one reason why he won at the end (and looked very fresh and easy)
Are you sure?
I recall reading some years ago that a fellow Brit (and neighbour) Geoff Smith ran 4:18 alongside Gidimas Shahanga (no doubt misspelled his name!) for the 18th mile during his famous race with Rod Dixon. At the time this fast split was blamed for Smith's inability to respond to Dixon over the last mile or so. Thats all academic but be interested to know if the split was correct, can anyone confirm?
On the 1 hr recap they actually showed the runners passing the "1 mile to go" mark. I'll double check the tape, but I think it was 4:40-4:50.
Tergat's form is so cool. He alway's looks like he is out for a jog, even the final 100 meters.
The NBC replay stated 2:04:45 with 1 mile to go (not at 25 miles). So they must've gone 4:45.
I was paying attention to that during the recap, too. The last mile (from 25.2) was 4:45.
Pretty impressive considering that last mile is 1/3 down and then 2/3 up.
Where do they have the 385 yards put in?
Marathon 26 mi., 385 yds
Is the last 385 yards placed earlier in the course or at the 25 mile mark they still have 1 mile 385 yards?
At 25 miles they still had 1.2 miles remaining. We saw them pass 25 (I think it was 4:50), then less than a minute later (385 yards later) were informed there was one mile remaining.
4:45 elapsed before Tergat hit the tape.
They had a 25 mile marker and a 1 mile to go marker.

thanks
What's amazing is that they put 26 seconds on Meb in that mile. In less than I mile, I think.

So Meb ran 5:11????? Don't high school girls run faster.
no
This is going to sound stupid but I think that Meb was lucky in a way that he lost contact and had the luxury of cruising in. I got sick just watching Paul and Hendrik duke it out.

you are retarded...
When the tank is empty, the tank is empty- so Meb gave up and eased up since he wasn't contending anymore.
I do wonder if there was a sub 2:10 time bonus.
