Agreed. I don't think it has anything to do with sexism. Rather, it's the fact that distance running is not considered a sport in the U.S., combined with xenophobia. Had the WR been broken by an American, male or female, it would have merited at least a brief mention by the major U.S. media, I think.
As I recall, Kipchoge's actual marathon WR (not just his sub-2 efforts) did get reported briefly on SportsCenter, e.g. The marathon has some recognition in the U.S. Other road racing distances, no.
