To all the White Knights on here...
IF you were coaching a college girls team and a couple of your highly recruited runners were no longer performing well and you noticed they were 8-12 lbs heavier, what do you tell them if they ask for help?
If they asked why they aren't performing as well as they did even in HS?
Do you just give them a bunch of work outs and extra mileage and never mention weight?
Just talk in general about "better nutrition" but w/o ever mentioning weight gain/loss?
If they're D1 runners they probably WANT to get better.. do you dare cross that bridge?
GREAT POINT. You can even take it further. Many times those athletes will be in your office CRYING because they are upset with their performances and they are asking what else they can do to get better. These athletes are doing everything right except when they are stressed from school they snack on unhealthy foods.
They are asking YOU for help to get faster. They trust YOU to help them and you PROMISED THEM in the recruiting process that you'd help them reach their fullest potential. Those athletes are saying "coach I'll do whatever it takes." Do you help them by addressing their weight gain, or do you say nothing?
