[quote]Frank is very much in the same neighborhood and a faster 10k PR. Hall just had the cache from his high school days being part of the Big 3 with Webb and Ritz.
Hall was an NCAA Champion and made a World Champs team at 5000. He also had a very good 2006 on the roads leading into Houston in January 2007.
If he breaks the AR, he may finish almost 2 minutes behind the winner. 1/2 seems like a good distance for Frank. Not sure who he is going to pace with as the front pack is going to be running 1-2 minutes faster. But the AR in the half is pretty soft considering the shoes.
Frank Lara will never break that American Record. Not in this race, not ever. He doesn't have that level of talent.
Never heard of the guy. Guess the pride of Furman?

He has that 1:01:50 PR from 2020
If he thinks he's fitter and he's in a deep race who knows.
We need more Americans doing things like that, send em to Dubai while we're at it.
This.
The critique is that we have too many 1:02/2:10 types. Get out to Europe and do some fast racing instead of running a tactical US Champs race. Plenty of guys should be running faster. Hall's AR half should have gone down by now, especially given the shoe talk on these boards !! Feel like you see American men in Houston and NYC. So maybe 2 chances a year for a truly fast half. One of those courses isn't that fast. Almost no Americans race places like Valencia, Rome, Barcelona, RAK, Prague, Lisbon, etc. Same deal for the marathon and places like London, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Berlin, etc. The top Americans don't run Worlds (half), which has been fast lately. We gotta find a way to incentivize US pros. Frank works for Strava right? & is sponsored by Altra now (also do they have a super shoe?). He has the flexibility to run Valencia whereas most US pros make their sponsors happy & run domestically.
Not sure if that Rupp time was record eligible. Rome is point to point & net downhill if I have that right.
Fortune favors the brave.

Who?
Seriously. Literally the first time I've heard of this fella.
Why is there an article on this…he won’t even come close

Frank Shorter doppelgänger 1971/72
At least he's shooting for something big. Too many Americans are way too pleased with themselves sitting on 61 minute PRs. He'll finish sub 61, not sure about sub-60. He's a solid runner, but he couldn't back up his big talk of running the 10k OQT earlier in the year
if frank even runs sub60 it will be the biggest shock in us distance running hisotry
Hall was a lot more talented.
I think guys underestimate how much fitter than their average times a lot of the top guys run.
Hall ran London 2007 in like 61-65, playing with the field.
With the shoes, this guy could run close to 60 minutes in a perfect race. More likely, he runs 63.
The jibber jabber is relentless amounts the instagram spammers. Shut yer mouth, lace up the f”$ing sneakers and run the time, let the jibber jabber roll when the results flow in.
Anyone else find this self proclaimed narcissistic boasting tiresome?
Even though as I discussed above Frank is no Ryan Hall in terms of base talent, I would not be shocked if he is eventually in the discussion of the 2024 Marathon Qualifiers. He paced the Marathon Projejct through 20 miles.
60:15-60:20 calling it. A great showing but not AR

I agree that Frank is on the come-up (see the previous posters who still don't know who he is), and he will likely be in semi-contention for a marathon team spot because of the state of U.S. men's marathoning. THAT is the bigger story, the true sadness, not Frank's talent or ability level in of itself.
It's insane that Rupp didn't smash the half AR. His 26:44 is worth a lot closer to 59 mins imo.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
