I had surgery about 4 months ago that prevented me from doing any strenuous physical activity for about two months, I couldn't even walk up a flight of stairs without losing my breath for over a month. That, along with starting college has made getting back into shape really difficult.
Over the past few weeks, I've run a few times, lifted weights once or twice, and climbed a couple of times to try to ease myself back into it. I love running and really only lift to get better at climbing and running.
All of my runs have been less than two miles and between 9-10:30 pace, and all of those were hard efforts. I was in ~20:30 5k shape before the surgery, so I'm definitely in far worse shape now.
I've always had trouble with shin splints, which I normally fix with running barefoot, but my foot callouses are gone right now so I can't do as much barefoot.
What plan should I follow for the next couple of months to get back into decent shape? Right now, I'm not sure running daily is possible, but every other day should be viable for me.
Thanks in advance!
