Currently making 200k base 175-200k bonus in NYC. Salary should continue to go up assuming I don't get fired (possible). In a couple years I may be making 700k. This job is also very high stress and demanding.
Before anyone acts like that a bunch of money, just went to a bunch of open houses this weekend for homes in the 900 to million range in the nearby suburbs with nice school districts and the homes were absolute garbage (either completely outdated, next to a busy highway, or have only one bathroom upstairs etc.).
Have the opportunity to pivot to something outside wallstreet finance that would be fully remote paying at 150k base and 90-100 bonus. Less steep salary growth as my current job. I could also come into the office often as want (to get out of the house), but offices are all in uber expensive areas like Seattle, SF, NY.
Not sure if I could keep myself mentally sane working fully remote (so taking my 250 salary to some cheap town in Arizona or Idaho, seems like a recipe for disaster for me despite the cheaper COL and beautiful scenery). Would have to keep it somewhat local to one of the cities I listed above. Thinking best play might be buying a decent home in Gig Harbor Wa or Snohomish County and commuting to Seattle twice a week?
2 kids. Trying for a third.
Wife stays home with kids.
Thoughts?
