Tempo runs
Sure, tempo runs and the like. Repeat 800s etc.
But also get your head into a place where you realize you *can do* a lot more than it seems you can. You can hold that pace longer and harder than you thought you could. If you've done the build up and basic conditioning and are ready for the work you can hang in, push and control pace a hell of a lot more than you thought you could. Find the next plateau, say hello, and make it yr new default.

Intervals at 3k pace and 5k pace. These are more specific to the stamina needs of a miler than tempo runs or threshold intervals.
8 x 600m @ 3k pace, 200m jog recovery
8 x 800m @ 5k pace, 200m jog recovery.
What should be 3k pace and 5k pace.
It's YOUR current fitness. You have to know what your own tempo, 3k and 5k pace is.
I know a lot of people on here don't like Tom Schwartz, but if you look into his critical velocity training he says that it helps build stamina.
