I’m running my first marathon (the San Francisco Marathon) this weekend and have absolutely no idea what to expect
Female, 20 years old
Have done 6 20ish-mile runs in the last 12 weeks (22.22 @6:45, 21.05 @6:40, 20.51 @6:41, 20.75 @6:32, 20.41 @6:27, and 20.57 @6:36). All of these (as well as most of my regular runs) have been progression runs starting around 7:30 pace. I also have done a lot of 17-18 mile runs, too
Have been at around 75-80 mpw since January. Bumped it up to around 95-100 mpw in mostly singles for ten weeks. Tapered the last two weeks (80 miles last week and what will be 60 miles this week including the marathon)
My main worry is that a couple months ago (when I was running 80ish miles a week), my easy pace was 6:30-6:40. Now, my easy days are more so around 6:50-7:10. I’m not sure if that is just due to the increased mileage or what, but it has definitely made me nervous
Recently ran a 10k in about 37 minutes. It didn't feel like it was all-out
I’m obviously super inexperienced with the marathon. I have no idea how to run one and what time I should even aim for, so I'm here asking for any advice I can get!
Also, I have a pair of vaporflys that haven’t been used, should I wear them for the race? Are they significantly better than normal running shoes?
