Zurich is exciting again. No more Des Linden.
Not sure if Kara is that good or that she just sounds good compared to how awful Des Linden is. Either way thank you NBC.

This is a tough gig. Either you have it or you don’t. Kara seems incredibly comfortable in this setting. Des seems like she would rather be at the dentist.

I couldn't stand her, or the guy with with her, doing the women's marathon. For the men's race, I turned off the volume and listened to my Spotify playlist in my ear buds. I thought she has the gift of hand but not much to say. She did mention a hundred times or so that it was Seidel's 3rd marathon.

Disagree. I find Kara annoying. Too much drama just like when she was racing.
Any day now she's gonna spill the beans on Owl Birdo. Maybe that's why I don't really like her because that's never happened.
Linden has horrible cliche’s and is super predictable.
I could announce with adjectives such as "bleeding" and "running on clouds".

Nah, she’s good. I know we like to hate on her here but in this job she’s good.
Goucher is awesome. I soured on her a bit in recent years, but her commentating is way better than others I've heard. I hope to hear her at many more races.
Kara does a great job.
Des Linden is fifteen shades of awful.
Interns of network execs reading this,
Please make Des Linden go away.

Can’t stand Goucher’s g-dropping (goin’, runnin’) and her enunciation that sounds like she is uneconomically,
excessively stretching her facial muscles while talking to sound like someone she thinks she should sound like as opposed to being herself.
I think Kara's getting better and better as she gets more comfortable, and she's always been comfortable about reading runners' body language.
Desi has good knowledge but her voice is too flat for this gig. Like too cool for school. And you do need experience and time to get the confidence to break in and speak whenever without stepping over the play by play.

The thing with Des , she would be more comfortable at a Car auction then the TV Booth.
Kara is actually putting in the work and studies her notes for hours... Not just mailing it in.
I think it's the difference in personality. Linden is very reserved. I think she did a good job but isn't the best fit as a color commentator for sports that 99.9% of the population either find it very boring or just don't care about. I expect the same with Galen Rupp.
my favorite announcer has become color guy Trey Hardee
This is non-competitive and shouldn't be a discussion. You're just kidding yourself if you don't like Kara Goucher. She is exactly what the networks want and will have that job as long as she wants it. It is no different than Rowdy Gaines on swimming, other than he now mails it in.
Des Linden occasionally makes a good point but she has a test pattern voice and too much dead air.
Too bad Goucher wasn't allowed to call every race today. She wouldn't have made the ridiculous Sanya Richards-Ross mistake of saying Clayton Murphy didn't qualify for the Tokyo 800 final because his heat was too fast, and she would have recognized that a rested Bednarek had the advantage over Kerley and DeGrasse at 800.
Goucher was phenomenal during the women's marathon. Her enthusiasm totally elevated that event to deserved status. Following the Olympics I watched every track and field session streaming version. Those streaming versions are available at NBCOlympics.com. I hope you guys who watched the streaming versions don't have the false impression that you actually watched the Olympics. The streaming caliber is absolutely laughable compared to the main network version. Announcers make all the difference. Try watching the John Anderson call of the women's 400 hurdles compared to the Leigh Diffey version. It's not even the same galaxy. And women's marathon was even worse. That Australian announcer was stuck on dull throughout.
However, by far the most incompetent example was the women's road cycling race. The network NBC team did a masterful job, emphasizing the errors by the Dutch team and the ongoing likelihood that the breakaway led by Anna Kiesenhofer would hold up and shockingly steal the race. Then I watched the streaming version. Rochelle Gilmore should have faced at least a 6 month jail sentence for that call. She totally dismissed the breakaway and asserted throughout that Annemiek van Vleuten was a cinch for gold. Even with 9 kilometers remaining Gimore was insisting, "It doesn't look good for Anna Kiesenhofer." Long before that point on the main network coverage, Steve Porino and others had already detailed that the mathematical advantage made it a certainty that Kiesenhofer would hold on.
200, not 800. There should be a brief edit function around here
