The women's 800m.? Intriguing. Assuming they go with the pace ( 1min 57ish) we can be pretty confident that Goule will be right on the pacemaker's shoulder with Kate and Reekie close to her, but how will Hodgkinson run it? In Brussels Keely decided not to hug the kerb . Will she revert to her kerb hugging tactics or try something different? From the times in Brussels, it looks like they are all pretty tired, and maybe the winner will be the one who is least tired, Anyway, as I said, an intriguing race.
Allegedly faster than Tokyo and Eugene... the surface is the same as the Monaco track now.
some spicy times could be at hand...
Looks to be about as warm as yesterday there - 80/81 degrees. Hoping most of these guys & gals aren't too toasted. I'd be bummed the Diamond series was coming to an end if not for the 6 World Majors in the offing.
Quanera MF Hayes pulls off a shocker and gives the US women 4 berths for next year. Paulino has looked beatable of late and she took the race right to her.
Watered down 400m. None of the best in the field. Barely breaking 50. This was like an NCAA event.

We've been spoiled by Mu and before that Irby's breakthrough race, but the NCAA women's 400m is typically won in 50.3-51.0, so no this would be an exceptional race for NCAA.
Great start for Team USA, as we'll have four in both 400s. Really spectacular capper to a great season by Cherry.
It's nice to see crowds at the meet. Nearing two years of Covid, if you don't know how to protect yourself* I don't know what to tell you.
Fall at the line or you don't mean it.
* Or have boatloads of drugs delivered to you within 45 minutes like Joe Rogan.
Great finish by Cherry and James. US off to a good start.
am I crazy or did it used to be the case that someone who didn't win the race at the DL final could still be the DL champ based on points totals? but now it looks like the points are just about qualifying for the final, and at the final, the winner is the champ. right?
I think I have that right, and I have to say, it has made for exciting races even though those 400s weren't otherwise all that exciting, because there is so much on the line with the DL title and the WC bye. Though you would think it would make for way better fields in those 400s...
Come on, Courtney!
Women's steeple about to start!

That sounds familiar

3rd isn't bad. She looked a little flat.
I would have liked to see her to be right on the lead at the bell but easier said than done.
The World Championship byes are huge deals (for the other Americans). Although I'm sure Cherry is glad to get his.

I wonder if she wouldn't be better off running wide the last few laps. Lot of holding up for the 'form' of everyone else at the barriers.
No redemption for Holloway? Let’s go Devon!
Courtney looked to be shuffling on a lot of the barriers and way less efficient than she was at Pre. Even still, impressive close, but let too big of a gap open at the bell.

Devon getting a bye into the home World Champs feels like poetic justice. Like Michael Cherry he had a really good season, so it feels fair they both have next year pressure-free until WCs. Frerichs ran fine, but clearly at her best she puts more of a stamp on that race you'd hope.
