Yea- like At least he has 5 runners. The 15th west ranked Cal women only had 4 to muster up at USF.

I looked at the results and most good coaches could take 5 random women that already go to UOP and produce something better. Heck they would probably lose to their own soccer team in an XC race. Calm down coach you still have your job there.

Let's be honest here folks, the up and coming distance coach will be the coach who has the most scholarships dedicated to distance runners. The schools who focus on distance are the best distance schools.
Remember Mike Smith at Georgetown, just another guy (and they are a distance focused school), he goes to the national champ xc program and he is the next great coach. Overnight success!
Athletes make coaches look good. Guys hate to hear that, but it is what it is.
So what makes a great coach? Just the athletes? Who makes the great athletes?
There's WAY more that goes into being a great/good coach than just having great athletes. Have you ever been coached?

Unfortunately for Solinsky, your personal running stats do not make you a good coach.
It’s tough to get your athletes to run as well as you when you can’t get them on your thyroid/salbutamol regiment that you had under a Nike contract.

Solinsky is still relatively new to coaching and got the big gig a little too soon, but he’ll figure it out.

Built the program from nothing and has made a killing turning mediocre high schoolers into beasts. Keep your eyes on him…
Sarah Hopkins coached the Minnesota women to fifth in the nation in CC last year, now she is adding the men’s team, replacing Steve Plasencia.

Lyle Weese at Montana State has been building a decent team up there. Duncan Hamilton made it to the Oly trials finals this year as a sophmore. Montana boys on the come up

Jacksonville State being top 5 in ASUN??? lol no chance this year. top 4 spots all already guranteed to be some combo of UNF, Lipscomb, EKU and Liberty. then Central Arkansas, KSU, and North Alabama are also way better than Jacksonville State. Jax state might not even beat stetson or FGCU

that depends on your definition of "mediocre high schoolers" and "beasts" and even your definition of "made a killing" as he lost to Monmouth and Rider last year.
Just clicking random names on the roster and see:
Ragone - 15:34 5k in XC, state champ in a very competitive section, 1:57 in the 800 and 4:23 in the full mile (without a senior year of track)
Laframboise - 1:55, 4:21
Guerin - 15:43 5k in XC, 4:18 in the 1600, 8:54 in 3k (no senior track)
McNamee - 4:20, 8:53 in 3k (no senior track)
Gillooley - 4:21, 9:23
Tkaczyk -1:57, 4:15, 9:16, 15:11

Canavan?
Siena is just unimpressive. I'll admit they don't get the talent of big schools, but has a Siena runner ever even qualified for regionals? Kibet came in a 1:48 guy and got worse. Otherwise I don't think they've ever had someone hit 1:50, 3:45, or 14:10 (pretty much the minimums required to be competitive in D1).
