Title says it all. Who are some of the new crop of up and coming D1 distance coaches out there? Who will be the men/women to replace the big name coaches when they decide to retire from the sport?

Steve Fueling at USF won his first meet as their new head coach, beating Stanford and Gonzaga. May have a bright future ahead of him

Since when was Gonzaga good? Stanford was not racing hard.
The men got beat by Nevada.....and Stanislaus State.....
Try again.
A win over Stanford is a win over Stanford. Anyway, just trying to boost my boy!

Thanks for the kind words. I am actually a high school coach and just curious as a fan. You seem to be butt hurt for some reason no one on here can help you with that.
Let's be honest here folks, the up and coming distance coach will be the coach who has the most scholarships dedicated to distance runners. The schools who focus on distance are the best distance schools.
Remember Mike Smith at Georgetown, just another guy (and they are a distance focused school), he goes to the national champ xc program and he is the next great coach. Overnight success!
Athletes make coaches look good. Guys hate to hear that, but it is what it is.
Somehow shelbo sis got gig. Go gauchos.
Artie Gulden at Utah State University has worked some wonders the past 4ish years. Seriously, they went from never qualifying for natties to finishing 26, 19, 11th in a matter of years. They are returning all of their guys from that 11th place team this year, plus an all-American transfer from BYU. The aggies should be pretty ok this year.
Disclaimer: I am not a member of the team, I attend the same university, but I am not fast enough for the team
The MFs in namibia are putting in work scouting out so many dsd athletes. Gotta hand it to them.

Those are some damn good results, good choice. It’s sad you have to put out a disclaimer just so trolls on here don’t think you’re the person. News flash the coaches that are mentioned in this way are not active on letsrun. I can name 5 solid up and coming distance coaches and I’m pretty sure that won’t make me ALL 5 of them. Common sense guys have some

This^
The last great coach was John McDonnell. His teams won in XC and on the track. Having a program at altitude and putting all your scholarships in distance is cake work.
The worst ones are much more fun to talk about.
Forest Braden?

Well usually those coaches are the more established coaches who get the fully funded programs or schools at altitude or both. The up and coming coach has to get more out of less, find the Diamonds in the rough. Get the walk on to 14:30 like was said in another thread. While 14:30 won’t get you to regional, enough of those guys will get you a solid XC squad. But I’ve seen coaches turn walk ons at mid majors into 14:00 guys routinely. These are the coaches we should be praising and there’s quite a few of them male and female!
If you go to Florida, this guy is your coach

Unfortunately for Solinsky, your personal running stats do not make you a good coach.
Whoever coaches the University of the Pacific has to be the worst D1 coach in the country.

You clearly are not a college coach… or even an observant fan… try recruiting a group of xc runners to an expensive private school in Stockton. Stockton! Oh and I don’t think he is full time or has any significant scholarship… worst coach gtfoh, it’s a miracle he can get 5 runners in every race, maybe look to the schools that can’t do that.
