He even mentions multi-day races as a possibility.
In a recent interview with author and athletic enthusiast Rob Steger, Kipchoge said his next goal after leaving marathons would be the ultra marathon.
"After leaving the marathon, I want to run the ultramarathons just to feel how it is. Running for more than 4 or 5 days or even run at once for 70 kilometres. I really want to feel the pain of running for a long time,” Kipchoge said.
Whether he would stick to the roads, or try a trail event, or give it 100%, would remain to be seen.
IMO, anything up to 100k on the roads would be utterly annihilated by him. 100 miles or more, and perhaps certain trail ultras, he may need some time to adapt to less runnable terrain (like any of the UTMB races). But again, he has run a sub freakin' two marathon, and has the legit record of 2:01:39. He is without doubt an aerobic beast.
Personally, I would love to see him run the Sierre-Zinal, yes it isn't an ultra, but it's a great mixture of the world's best trail runners as well as some 2:09-2:12 marathon talent.
I bet Kipchoge doing any ultra would start a ripple effect of more East Africans doing MUT events, if the prize money was adequate for them though.
Sage, Camille, what say you?
