Gidey is a wonderful runner but has no kick. The current crop of Ethiopian women hold no candle to T. Dibaba, Defar and Ayana in global championships.

My only disappointment was not getting to see her run around with her country’s flag (she was on the ground barfing etc. for such a long time that the camera cut away). She is the GOAT.

When I said her victory was unsportsmanlike, I was referring to two points in particular:
1) Gidey gestured to Hassan and the Bahrainian runner to take a stint at the front, which they refused to do.
2) Hassan appeared to give Gidey an elbow as she passed her in the final straight, which was entirely unnecessary.
Look, I absolutely admire Hassan's audacity and guts. Her unprecedented feat speaks for itself.
Still, I would have liked to see a display of strength similar to what Cheptegai produced in the 5,000m yesterday. That was a beautiful display of fitness and racing prowess. Hassan's victory was a stride at the end of a hard tempo run.
Actually Sifan applied "Ethipian tactics", i.e. don't to the work until the end. However, the tactical (and not so great) masterpiece was that Sifan didn't move out when they overtook a lapped runner on lane 1, Gidey had to wait and then Sifan launched her kick!
My opinion is she clipped Gidey way too many times and screwed up her pacing & concentration. I think this was a major factor. They were running 70s then after Gidey started fighting with Hassan about it, they were running 75s. There were at least 3 times she asked her to stop clipping her heels. There's no excuse for this. I wish she was DQed. My more bitter self thinks this was intentional since she couldn't keep hitting 70s, but of course, could outkick Gidey any day. That shove to get by Gidey at the end was not necessary at all given the space.
Hassan raced dirty. She may have won either way but I wish she didn't.

According to Athletics Weekly, the last 100m of her 10,000m plus 3x1500m plus 2x5000m was faster than Jacob's in the 1500m.
https://twitter.com/AthleticsWeekly/status/1424036090114105350Combined w/ the burst of speed after her fall, I just can't believe that's clean.
She’ll take down the Jamaicans any day now… She ran 13-high and then almost fell unconscious. That’s sort of the opposite of the unbothered doper who happily bounces around after vanquishing her competition. But let me guess, you’ll say that that’s a sign of doping too, or that she’s just pretending to be tired (because she’s also an Emmy winner, secretly), or that when she doesn’t appear fatigued she’s doping and when she is absolutely cratered she’s doping because she’s doping. Why’s that? Because. Because what? Because everything, in all directions, no matter what.

She asked her 3 times? Really? I love Hassan but that's pretty bad. I assume it wasn't intentional and that the cause was extreme fatigue, but still

Which broadcast showed this? How do you know? NBC and peacock cut away almost immediately after she won
Hands down this woman is the most complete distance runner in history! for both women and men. I know this will entail significant opposition to this statement or acknowledgment. But this equals the achievement of Emit Zatopek.
The olympic final is not a team sport, none of the participants need to heed her requests. Gidey has the world record, then she should act like it and pace like it. If someone is speeding up, she may get clipped, you have a choice you can whine and lose or pick up the pace. She slowed down waiting for someone to take the bait, no one was going to let her.
What intrigues me about Gidey and Hassan is that they have such different form. Gidey has such beautiful form, almost aesthetically perfect. Hassan is more gangly, but proof once again that gangly can definitely get it done. Of course, Hassan definitely deserves to be talked about as the GOAT at this point. She had now done things that only some of the legendary males—Zatopek, Viren—have done. And there's no question that her mindset when it comes to high-level competition is truly next-level in terms of what she expects of herself. She is definitely one of those runners who we are going to be talking about in our dotage..."I saw her when..."
I was disappointed in the 10K. Gidey practically gift-wrapped the race for Hassan. The 5K wasn't much better. Hassan is great but at least make her work for it. Fortunately, Kipyegon hasn't bought in to the Hassan hype.
Is this the greatest track and field Olympic performance of all time for either gender? I ask because I think it is. To merely attempt this triple is legendary. To medal in all three is epic greatness.
Why did hassan run the 1500 M like she did? That was a bad strategy
With that amazing kick she should have never took the lead.
Surely she could have got silver. Maybe even gold if she didn't fall and race the better strategy. What do you guys think?
