This video is from a different angle and shows Jewett's right foot contacted Rotich's left leg apparently throwing him off so he tripped.
What is interesting is that going into that turn Rotich was on the rail and Jewett was outside of him in lane 1. Jewett got ahead of him and moved to the rail right before he tripped.

To me at ~1:28-1:31 it looks like Amos was too close, Jewett’s back foot hit Amos’s knee, and then Jewett got thrown off balance, hit hit own leg and fell. Whose fault it was that Amos was too close, I’m not sure. It kind of seems like Jewett should be in the final…

I only watched it live with the replay, but it looked like Amos clipped him. I’ll have to watch it again.
amos looked like he told jewett - sorry about that - while they were both on the ground. All body language from both guys made me think at the time that amos was at fault.
Good angle. Pretty clear that Jewett's back swing bonked Amos just below the knee and caused him to lose balance.
Yes Because Jewett cut in too early... which should be a DQ for jewett and aq for Amos

there is no cutting in. and you can't watch that video and say Amos was too close to Jewett. They're a stride apart. The contact is bad luck and it doesn't look like something that should have caused Jewett to fall. What caused him to fall is that he kicked his own leg after the contact. Just because there was contact doesn't mean Amos "clipped" Jewett or that it's Amos' fault. This looks like normal racing that shouldn't cause any disruption -- people get spiked in every race -- but Jewett kicked his own leg and fell. And I think that take fits with Hoppel's tweet about officials deeming the contact to be just part of racing and advancing Amos but not Jewett.
This is exactly right I think this is why amos is in and jewett is not
Hold on i don't think world athletics DQ r reinstatespeople as you can see in one of the world athletics articles it says the referees reinstated amos this implies it was a japanese referee who decided not world athletics

^^ to me, rewinding this video at this angle suggests that Jewett ran outisde of Amos until 600m, where he made a move inside. He and Amos were running stride for stride around the bend (with Amos right up on Jewett), including nearly identical arm movements (left and left, right and right simultaneously). Amos then moved outside when Rotich crept up, inadvertently knocking Jewett's arm and knocking Jewett's rhythm off balance.
Contact by Amos, but appeal-worthy?
No be cause Jewett cut in too early impeding Amos causing Jewett to kick Amos
I completely agree. At 3 seconds you can see the back lift of Jewitt's right spike clip the outside of Amos' left knee. Amos should have given him more room on the pass, and I think (since only 9 lanes in the final) Jewitt should have been given the position. Devastated for Jewitt
I agree with doingthistopost . . . Jewett tripped himself. I just watched that Chris Chavez video dozens and dozens of times--watching those critical strides of both runners. I see Isaiah's right foot clip his left calf/behind the knee . . . causing him to break stride and begin to go down. Amos can't avoid Isaiah and goes down. I do not see Amos clipping Isaiah's heel as the reason for Isaiah's fall. All the best to Isaiah in the future.
Jewett's foot might strike Amos' knee in this shot:
Two full strides later, Amos and Jewett knock hands, which is where Jewett goes down:

Ok, so we have T&F's version of the Zapruder film and just as many interpretations. Should it be this hard to get the OFFICIAL interpretation from world athletics or the Japanese refs or whoever actually heard the appeals and made the decisions? Why doesn't the governing body for this appeal just come out and explain what they saw, their interpretation of the rules and why they concluded that Amos is aq and Jewitt is sh-t out of luck. Jewitt was not dq'd by the way, an important point.
I agree and obviously the officials do as well. Rojo is just editorializing
That's what he does best. Not that he's good at hiding it -- see Houlihan, etc.

SHAMEFUL for JAPAN and OTHER ATHLETES who will NOT STAND UP.
Is there NO ONE who will stand up?
In this case, Robert Johnson is leading the way.

This idea that runners can see what’s going on behind them (outside of periferal vision) and adjust is so stupid I can’t believe people are using it as a reason for a DQ or reinstatement of Amos.
At this point both should be in the final or just Jewett. I’ve seen no evidence that Jewett went down for anything other than Amos running up on him too close.
Here is exactly what happened (high quality video included):
Jewett and Amos are running side by side on the back straight. Jewett pulls ahead of Amos at the beginning of the turn. Jewett tries to cut in to the rail because they were on the turn. Jewett did not move far enough past Amos to cut in to the rail safely (which is why his trailing right foot hits Amos' shin causing the fall). I believe that they are thinking that Jewett cut Amos off which is why Amos was passed through.
HOWEVER, looking very closely, it appears that during the exact stride in which Jewett made his final move in to the rail, AMOS makes a stride to the outside of lane 1 to initiate a pass himself! In this case it is impossible to determine whether the fault lies with Jewett cutting in too early, or Amos cutting out too early to start his pass.
Very unfortunate occurrence. But I am pretty pumped that Amos is in the final.
Here's half the story:
https://www.sundaystandard.info/amos-tumbles-and-makes-the-finals/
"According to article 17.2 and 17.2.1 of the World Athletics Technical Rules, “If an athlete is jostled or obstructed during an event so as to impede their progress, then: if the jostling or obstruction is considered unintentional or is caused otherwise than by an athlete, the Referee may, if they are of the opinion that an athlete (or their team) was seriously affected, in accordance with Rule 18.7 of the Competition Rules or Rule 8.4 of the Technical Rules, order that the race (for one, some or all of the athletes) be re-held or allow the affected athlete (or team) to compete in a subsequent round of the event.
"Taking cue from this rule, team Botswana officials who believed the athlete had been impeded acted quickly and successfully registered a protest which they won, giving Amos and Batswana a well-deserved shot at an Olympic medal."
This is complete horse shhit! You saw it, I saw it, we all seen it!. Jewett gets shoed, and the puke doing the shoeing gets to race in the final. Complete stupidness.
Jewett passed Amos on the outside on the turn and got in front of him cleanly cutting in.
Then immediately, Amos tried to move outside and go back around Jewett.
That's where the contact happened.
Jewett didn't cut in too soon.
Amos cut out too soon.
Not a foul, though.
